Ending the Menu Key Argument for Good(Hopefully)

I'm gonna be honest here, you guys are far worse then "iSheep" at least they don't argue between each other and don't mock Android users unlike some people on this forum have done to me for owning an iPhone.

Not including jailbreaks the only thing that separated my iPhone from the person next to me was purely cosmetic. I learned quickly with Android there is a lot to gain or lose with whatever device you choose. With all the choices available I'm not surprised there is more infighting with Android. I suppose it's easier to keep the peace when everyone is on the same playing field.

Hard to imagine iMore freaking out about the menu buttons lol. I guess that's one of the things I agree with standardization on. Figure out how it's going to work, do it and lets move on to important stuff in the innovation department. People will either adjust or go extinct. Evolve!

Different iPhone models, different iOS versions but yes I agree with your main point.

This is quite true. I've come to Mobile Nations pretty late in the game, having spent most of my earlier smartphone forum time at either XDA or Phandoid but I immediately noticed that rants against other OS's are practically non-existent at iMore compared to here, CB, and WPC. Seriously they kind of remind me of a big mellow dog lounging on the deck ignoring the yapping poodle next door. I don;t think it's arrogance really, it's just simple insular mentality. iPhone users just don't seem to care about anything else and just choose to ignore the rest by and large. I think they know Android packs wickedly advanced functionality compared to iOS6 now, but they come across to me as more like a hipster non-techy crowd who just don't care as long as it basically works well, is reliable, and has a popular logo on it.

A lot of you guys get mad at them because you're thinking like a tech-head and expect that others who really aren't as into that stuff as you are "should" want to jump ship to Android because it's currently more advanced. It doesn't matter how many times someone points out that the vast majority or smartphone users don't even know what current smartphone innovations are, we're still all guilty of forgetting that.

I am now educated on this subject but still don't get why HTC made this choice when they could've put in a menu key and avoided the whole problem. In a perfect world the apps would all be updated and there'd been no issue.

Because there isn't supposed to be a menu button on the device, per Google's instructions.

App developers need incentive to update their apps, and when their apps start to get lower ratings because they haven't added their own menu button and people are forced to use the one imposed by the OS maybe they will.

This is a temporary situation with a work around in place as the transition takes place. Sometimes you have to rip off the bandaid. Now if all handset makes would start following the guidelines this process would go much faster.

Why does everyone keep talking about a missing menu button on the HTC One? There hasn't been a menu button since the nexus S. All HTC did was combine the home and multitasking button, which really isn't that hard to get used to, though I would still prefer a dedicated multitasking button. Samsung is the one that has decided to stay in the past. We should be complaining about them, not HTC.

Samsung doesn't have a hideous black bar running across the bottom of popular apps.

Yelling at Samsung isn't going to make developers suddenly decide to update their apps. Some might because the big dawg in the park moved on. Even if they went that direction I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung left an option to turn one of the buttons into a menu button like a lot of custom roms allow.

What is so hard for you to understand? That is the developer's fault, not HTC's. I only wish Samsung would get with the program.

We all get it. To you Samsung>HTC. All of us poor slobs who decide to go with obviously inferior phones would just like to humbly request that king Samsung adopt the standard button layout so lazy developers will fix their apps.

Who are you talking to?

Genuine question.

This thread was not initiated with the intention to end an argument but instead to start one. The mission was a success. I wish the moderators would put a stop to this.

If people would read the entire thread and not quote his initial post they would see he understood what Jerry and others were saying without an attitude.

The OP, who seems to think that Samsung's non-standard approach to continue using a menu key is somehow the right choice to make.

If I started a thread in the s4 forum stating that Samsung should drop the menu button, and that it's Samsungs fault that developers won't update their apps, it would have been locked down immediately! This topic has nothing to do with the ONE, yet it's allowed to clutter our forum! Seems some people get special leeway!

See the first post I quoted. The OP didn't cause the problems in this thread.

It still doesn't belong in the ONE forum!

The OP started the thread, correct?

You guys are really going to argue with me? I would put serious thought into your next post.

Why do people think it's just ok to question a Moderator like that in a thread? If you really have questions about something we do PM us.
