Engadget Review

The screen would have looked completely different in the videos if it did...more like the Droid X2

Yeah the Droid X2 and Atrix use the Pentile Matrix. I was told the Sensation and EVO 3D did as well. However after posting that link, it does not seem so. Like I said I did the research and found something for you guys. I wasn't trying to hate on anything, that is why I was looking around.

Seeing this still makes me wonder.. Is the Pentile bad? The Atrix clearly has better viewing angles.

Yeah pentile is pretty bad and the Evo 3d was questioned about having it back when it was first announce....so we all already know that it doesn't have pentile it has RGB. You probably won't find any fans of the pentile matrix at all.

Everyone knows it doesn't use pentile. Just busting your balls earlier for having such a strong opinion :) no worries

Oh yeah I have seen the hate by doing Google searchs of the Pentile Matrix. I do give it that viewing angles are better, but when your up close it looks very blocky. I wish though that HTC would go to using IPS with this QHD Res. I'm waiting to see what the next device from HTC will be, and what screen it uses. I love HTC, but for me the EVO 3D doesn't give me the same feeling of excitement as the EVO 4G did.

Indeed! That is why I love this place. ;)

At least the Evo 3D was good enough for Laptop magazine to give it the editors choice award. None of these reviews will deter me from getting my Evo 3D...I can care less about the 3D something that I may only use once.

Uh, all the reports I've read were that the 3D was NOT pentile and you were corrected for this previously. You keep saying that it is, do you have any proof?

Have you read my later posts? Keep up "Read post 79 by me"

I was doing research and found indeed it wasn't. My initial response was based on what some Sprint reps had mentioned to me. It was my mistake, but no need for disrespect. Read my posts after that.

The thread moved faster then when I actually sent my post so I removed it, but you should refrain from posting things as gospel until you know for a fact.

It's not really garbage gospel when it comes from Sprint employees. Again these forums are filled with much worse types of gospel. We all know that. Again it was my mistake, and I did the luxury of researching and posting it that it indeed was not Pentile. :)

Whatever your feelings, you have to admit the Evo 4g really blew people away, and for better or worse it set high expectations for its successor, and i have yet to see anyone profess to being equally wowed by the EVO 3D.

I like my EVO and have gone back and forth on the 3D and ultimately decided to wait given the blistering pace of phones coming to market.

As for engadget, i really have come to loathe Myriam. She makes some good points from time to time when she gives opinion as a developer, but generally I have come to find her to be smug and not representative of the population at large. she incorrectly assumes the world bases their purchase decision on camera quality, whether yoy can tether freely, and GSM roaming capabilities.

she has a vendetta against htc sense as if us in the general public get to buy 5 phones every month and move to something different or better like she can.

Engadget would be wise to dump her or put her in a support role as I have to believe she is going to drive people away from engadget, not bring in new listeners. Funny how there are no guests since she took over from ziegler. Cant be a coincidence.
I keep hearing people say that they're disappointed that this phone isn't blowing people away like the Evo 4G did. When the Evo came out, there was no phone with specs like that, it truly was mind-blowing to see them listed. Fast forward a year, a phone isn't high-end if it doesn't have at least a 4" screen, a 1ghz dual-core, and some 4G variant... it's going to take something SPECTACULAR to wow anyone like the Evo did. The only specs I've seen that blow me away right now are the rumored specs of the Nexus 4G.

Call it what you want, but it wasn't correct.

Well said Lex. Spl is fine and not being a jackass. We all had plenty of time to read the posts and keep up.

Anyone that would let someone from a tech site review deter them from buying something, is someone that can't make decisions for themselves. These guys and gals that review these products all have an agenda, they all have a biased opinion just like you or I would.

Try the phone out for yourself. You are the best reviewer for you. Not someone that's partial to Apple or LG and whose company has a deal with Verizon or AT&T. I don't even read most of the reviews, because I already know what the majority will say. Do yourself a favor and buy the phone you like, not the one some guy from engadget or Phonescoop tells you to. If you really need to listen to a review, your likely to get a better and more neutral review from a site like this.

I really think the quality of Engadget has been going down hill steadily. A lot of the writers/staff have been jumping ship. They have standards for their reviews, so they are all biased and the scores just depend on the person reviewing the phone. They need to set up some benchmark standards. Like looping the same video file on all the phones they review so you can get comparative stats for all phones reviewed.

I also feel that the review was rushed and not a lot of effort was put into the review.

really? read their samsung galaxy s2 review:

i'd say they give high marks where it's due. i actually think their reviews are pretty good. they were one of the first reviews that correctly pointed out EVO 3D not having 1080p video recording.

Their reviews are hit and miss. It really depends on which "editor" writes it. The GS2 review was done by a different person from the 3D review, which is an indicator of part of the problem. They really need to have a fixed team of a few individuals who only review android phones, etc., similar to how Cnet does it.

You do know the same person doesn't review every time right? The person who wrote the evo 3d review(Myriam) says many biased things during podcasts. It is a known fact she doesn't like htc sense and her explanations don't even make sense. She puts too much of her own opinion into the review instead of legitimately telling what good or bad features the phone has. If we had a different reviewer, maybe the person that reviewed the Sensation or SGS2, the Evo 3D would have definetly had a better score.

For example one of her cons on the Evo 3d was that the screen could have been better quality....seems more like an opinion to me and Htc has never been known for overly great screens so why judge them now. Even looking back at older reviews that she had written, the con sections were all full of b.s. The only con that I will say could be a legitimate problem is the camera(even that was kind of sketchy since I've seen some good quality material from the Evo 3D on other reviews). Nobody is expecting a retina display, nor are we expecting a whole day of battery life while using 4g, wifi, and hot spots simultaneously.

Agreed, The "site" doesn't review phones, individuals do. The individual who reviewed the GS2 hailed the GS2 as THE best phone. The individual who reviewed the 3D didn't care for it. Such is life the the tech world.

Lol guys go look at the comment section of the review. Myriam has finally stepped out of her cave and is beginning to reply to some of the bashing.

Very true, when a reviewer says I hate sense, that is just a personal opinion. When you are reviewing something you need to able to leave personal opinions aside. You cant say oh, the phone is blazing fast and as good as it gets, then I hate sense. Just plain stupid thing to say.
