I just have this horrible feeling that Verizon is going alter the basic phone significantly. Burning in the My Verizon and Back up assistant apps is almost too much. If they do anything more, GSM version it is.

Why can't the person who buys the phone install those two apps?
Do they have to preinstall them because customers aren't smart enough to know what's good for them?
Leave the crapware off of phone. Let the user install Backup Assist, or My VZW. If they preload it, they are pushing it on people.
Isn't Android designed to sync contacts with your Google Acct?
If a person wants to transfer contacts, they can log into gmail and export them.
If they want to manage data usage, then install My Verizon.
It's crazy to think that it's only 2 apps, so its OK.
It's a NEXUS! Its not a Verizon Droid.

I felt this inkling way when they first announced a Nexus on VzW. The honchos @ VzW are already about as anti-developer friendly as anyone. Prayed for pure Google but it's not looking like that tradition will not continue moving onward, upward & unimpeded, w/ Big Red. Even at it's worst, a Nexus on LTE will take away some of the sting of being stuck w/ "stock" bloated goods.

i agree it is ridiculous. Why bake it in? Preload the effing apps, dont bake them in. If you want everyone to have those two apps preload them on the phone. If someone wants to use them great! If not delete them! Its just that simple. Especially if this is the delay. Why would they piss off customers delaying a phone that has so much buzz over two apps that can be dowloaded from the market? It is just straight up ludicrous no ifs ands buts about it.

Yea, I have a bad feeling too. A lot of people think that because it's a Nexus, we shouldn't worry.
They underestimate the stupidity of Verizon.
If they screw with the bootloader or get in the way of updates, I am done with them. I will go to a GSM carrier like the rest of the planet

I'm a bit anxious to see how this plays out. This definitely is becoming a tricky slope for Google if they embed those apps. & lock them up. It's not the end of the world, imo, but it does set a precedent. I never expected to see Google willingly allow a carrier to pimp their brainchild out in this manner just to put it an LTE enabled Nexus in peoples hands. As for the updates, I'll lose all faith in Google if they allow Big Red to bog down the release of. Googles OTAs'.

guys.. try and remember this phone is being sold to all consumers.. not just technerds..
Verizon wants its average customer to have access to these features especially for customer service issues..
People on this forum forget that this isnt just some phone thats sold in some dark cellar to only those who are tech wiz's.. this phone will be sold to the general population regardless of whether or not it says "nexus" next to the "galaxy".
Also the people that said "just give us the phone, I dont care if it has bugs" wow.. 1. Verizon wouldnt be succeeding if they were this dumb.. as to release a phone with bugs and deal with the customer service backlash of returns, and extra support to solve issues for customers.. and 2. You people saying you would deal with the bugs are 100000x more picky then the average person that just walks in and get a phone, you will be swapping out your nexus's on a weekly basis at your local verizon store till you have the holy grail of the production line.. dont sit here and act like verizon is suppose to trust that you just want the phone that didnt pass their QA and you wont fuss about any problems that arise.

They loaded NOTHING on the iPhone. Apple wouldn't have that.
Nexus phones are sold worldwide. They have never had carrier bloat.
Nexus is a Google phone. Not a Verizon phone.
Just like the iPhone is an Apple phone, not built for Verizon.
If Verizon wanted to, they could of carried the Galaxy SII and screwed with it all day long.
Instead they skipped it for a Nexus.

Its the principal of the matter. They should not he there regardless whether its one app or ten apps. Verizon is not suppose to have anything on this phone, yet they have branding and 'bloat'. I pray that Verizon has no say in the update process as well. I want my updates asap straight from Google.

For what it's worth, I've heard that Verizon is building up Backup Assistant to be kind of like their own cloud service in that you will eventually be able to back anything up (contacts, music, docs, etc) and retrieve it on any device.
And once this is done, yes, they will be looking to load it on the Iphone too.
Regardless of what your opinion is on these two apps, updates will come from Google. I don't know if it was in this thread or another, but somebody posted a Google Groups discussion with an Android developer who stated that once the LTE version (codenamed Toro as opposed to Maguro for the GSM version) is released, it will be supported in a tree in the AOSP code for 4.0.1.

If it bothers you that much, just hide/uninstall them. Remember ICS gives you that option by default. You won't ever see them and they won't ever run. Google employees and developers all get the GSM version of the phone. I know this because I have friends who work at Google.
This doesn't matter. My Sprint Nexus S 4G has been getting updates at the same time the GSM phone does. It's the same Android version with different radio support. For example, I have 2.3.7 and this has been the version for months.
At launch with 2.3.4, the radio support on my Sprint version was awful. With 2.3.5, throughput literally doubled on all radios (3g, wimax, wifi). That update, and every other update came from Google.

Apple provides alot of its own customer support.. Google doesnt.
And as much as I dislike Apple, and prefer Android.. Iphone is the equivalent of every Android phone put together.. its an entire market in 1 phone.. its got alot more pushing room then Google has.
