epic is pretty much perfect

Nothing wrong with the Snapdragons at all for smoothness. It just doesn't score the high 50's in Nerocore on the Evo's snapdragon. Now the G2's Snapdragon beats the Epic and the Hummingbird in Neocore.

thats the new Scorpion chip by Qualcomm that is 45nm like the SGS but the evo has the old one with the crappy gpu. if the evo had that chip, it would have been a different story

but it doesnt...

What gps issues are people still having post update? No one says what they are which seems like people say it just to say it.

And spl....I own both phones, and yes, the Epic is faster on quite a few counts. Not by a mile, but it's noticeable. And that's comparing 2.1 to 2.2. The difference should increase when 2.2 hits.

Well i'm using LauncherPro and Spare Parts with fast animations. Everything seems to load the same if not faster some times then the Epic did. Just from my tests, I do know that Sense is a little more bloated then Touchwiz is. So that comparison yes I can see that. However with a lighter launcher and fast animations, mine loads the same if not faster.

No I was just quoting your take on the Snapdragon chip. I thought you meant that chip in general. They have many versions of it. That also is a Snapdragon core btw, not Scorpion. That was it's code name...

The same issues they were having pre-update. Read the forums. (The updates have done nothing to cure the GPS problems.)

To recap for those tuning in late, if a user does not use the GPS for a day, and does not reboot or do something else to reset the GPS cache, the next time he tries to use the GPS it will utterly fail to get a satellite lock. There are lots of users who, with ample justification, perceive that the GPS does not work at all. Those who research the issue and plow through threads on support forums might learn that there are workarounds.

Secondarily, when the GPS does work, it falsely reports to the Android system that the estimated accuracy is always 30 meters (98 feet). This can confuse some apps that read that value.

Bottom line, Epic and Evo are both GREAT phones, Evo has advantages over the Epic and the Epic has advantages over the Evo. It comes down to what you need it for I.e. camera, gaming, watching media, hacking it, or any other of the countless things.

Evo wins in some categories.

Epic wins in some categories.

But, neither will be around in flag ship form as they both are now.
Just take a look at the nexus 1, came out in january and look how far behind the curve it is now.

Lets just enjoy what we have, I've seen enough of these Epic vs. Evo threads.

The Nexus One is not behind the curve. Reason it's the official dev phone for many. Has the same guts as the Evo...

720p?
F.F.C.?
samoled or slcd?
Its has a different snapdragon then the evo..
1350Mah (i think) battery?

KICKSTAND?!

Its behind the curve.

Its the official dev phone because it will run anything lol, real stock android and its the easiest to develop for.

The Evo is the QSD8650, and the Nexus is the QSD8250 which are the same cores. One is CDMA/Wimax, and the other is GSM. But they are both the same core, and same GPU.

720p can be used with root I believe. The Nexus's had AMOLED, Li-Ion 1400 mAh. But remember smaller screen, and AMOLED so the need for a bigger battery isn't needed. At least from what I have seen those have better battery then our Evo's.

I'm talking out of the box, i know it had amoled obvious i was talking about Samoled/slcd.

Could have swore they had different snaps.

Either way i will guarantee by this time next year, neither phone will be flagship status anymore. Which was the point i was trying to make, no need to get all nit-picky about it.

Yeah no they both use the same Snapdragon, just one is GSM and the other CDMA, but both are the same chip just different radios.

Oh indeed, next year we will have the dual-cores.

I also love this phone. Always had(minus some squeaky noise). I showed my friend with an Evo my Epic and he agreed that my phone was better. He asked to trade lol. I took video at a baseball game and it was amazing. I think I will upload it here for you guys to see.

Please do, I would love to see its epicness

I actually returned my EVO due to the sluggish performance and got an EPIC. I am very happy with the EPIC, I think it was worth $50 more, the 16gb card, awesome keyboard, stellar graphics, very responsive and then there is the amazing screen. My wife still has her EVO and while it has a bigger screen you can not hold it next to the EPIC withouth the VO screen looking very washed out. I do miss all of my HTC widgets though.

YouTube - video 2010 09 29 19 00 41 This is a link at the baseball game. NOTE: YOUTUBE DIDNT MAKE THIS 720p for some reason, but I tried. And it completely degraded the quality even for 480p. Trust me this video looks amazing on my computer. Feels like you are right there with gorgeous colors from the green field.

So then I also uploaded this video which is is 720p. YouTube - Samsung Epic HD Video Sample outdoor
This looks pretty good, but is much much better on my computer. Youtube for some reason just adds a lot of granulation to the lighter colors.

LOL He does have a point, though. This phone is far from perfect (not that there's a perfect one out there).

It might be excellent hardware, but I have at least three nitpicky issues with Android right off the top of my head, and I'm sure I could come up with more ...

Honestly? OS-wise, WebOS is better. Yes, I said it. The card multitasking approach is nigh idiot-proof and incredibly intuitive. Their unified email works loads better than the default app (and probably most other email apps) on Android.

There *is* a lot that Android does by default that WebOS needed patches for, and Android does "look" better (though that might be hardware related). However, what they both do, I have to say (ignoring the flaws in hardware), WebOS did better.

Give me a polished WebOS on hardware like the Epic (landscape slide out 5 row keyboard, 4.0 or larger SAMOLED screen, hardware camera button, 1GHz processor), and that would be much closer to perfect.

But we'd still be able to find something wrong with it.

Now, on the other hand, I do get fed up with the occasional "Here are the problems with the phone, it sucks, I'm getting something different!" posts. Fine, you said your piece, goodbye! Don't stick around and try to defend your opinion - you're no better than (or probably just are) a troll.

Forget dual. I want Marvell's triple core. Sipping battery on the single core for daily low demand usage and kicking into the dual cores for intensive use. Nothing but fast and smooth.

I can think of 10 things wrong with WebOS, and not all of which will be fixed with the mythical 2.0. It will just be beta software for its life.

1. Poor market. Create a poor base and no one wants to develop for it. They also came late to the game, and not being open ruins it. Apple can get away with it, Android is Open, Palm is the worst of both worlds.

2. API's damn, is it really that much to ask for?

3. No bluetooth file transfer protocol

4. No bluetooth voice dialing

5. No mic integration. This really does suck, cause there are useful things you can do with a mic, like voice recording, memos, voice search...

6. Horrible file management

7. 2 Hardware choices, neither are great

8. No future for the best parts, like the "Just type"... How does that work on a keyboardless tablet?

9. No widgets, I've grown quite fond of them

10. LIES, lots of LIES that were fed to us early adopters. We bought beta software and were told it was great. It was more of a concept than practical. Where's the apps? Where's the document editors? Over a year in existence and still nothing but crap in the market.

As you said, WebOS is idiot-proof. Its an OS designed for idiots. I'll take an OS thats functional for smarty pants.
