Epic Release Date and Pricing on Amazon Banner

1) I am not an accountant, but I knwo what my accountant would say, and that is that $250 isn't the cost, nor is the stated retail price the cost. Thw two ways to validly objectify look at the cost are this
a) what you can turn and sell (or buy) this NIB on ebay: Secondary market price. That is your most accurate because it represents exactly the differnce on your pocket of having or not having it. (yes you can also get this number by taking discounted price plus etf, plus labor cost of etf mess)
b) the other way to look at cost is to be intelligent and the $50 is trivial when looking at the product which is 24 months of service with an appliance.. for everyone not switching from an EVO (99%o f epic buyers?) the cost involves mandated future spending to have it. since it is $10 a line bumpx24 tha i s $240 right there. if it is motivating you to change from a discoutend legacy to a discounted ED or eprp than your increases are another $5 to $10/monthx24 or the order of $400 with 4g.

So #a is unkown but on the order of $500 or so, not $250. And #b is on the order of $500 to $600 bucks and a $50 difference is on the order of 10% either way, ie not a big deal in making such a decision

2) keep in mind that value of a product in a customer mind is not set by CNET, our opinions, objective facts etc, it is set by price set by seller. One way to make the EPIC more desirable is t increase price. The more expensive a thing is, the more people generally want and value it.

3) In my own mind, for me, the Epic easily has $50 more appeal and value. In my comparative analysis (and it isn't everyone's but mine) Evo has three small advantages: a) visual form factor, ie beauty (and why not, it is in part a status symbol, just as my watch used to be) and b) the extra .4 screen size as even to res is the same I am 50 and it will be slightly easier to read; and c) htc's front end. The Epic for me has seven or eight advantages, but hose differences are also higher value to me, though which easily override a $50 difference in a $1700 (3%)* 24 month/line cost: a) less power hungry equal speed CPU; b) less pwer hungry screen (a and b almost certainly resulting in higher battery life for intensive use ei not talk or standby) c) better GPU d) much better screen visually e) keyboard.

Also, and I think this looks may perverse to those of you who have never worked, but is rational for Sprint: The fact is if they expect long term problems with EVO inventory, they have to, HAVE to, make EPIC seem more "valauble." The evo got a lot of notice due ot its 4g and beauty. people are coming into stores asking for it and because of 4g are the prime customers Sprint wants to take or keep. If a potential goes in for an EVO, and they don't have it and Sprint tries to sell them another handset tehy meay well not have heard of, the person is liable to be unhappy. THE easiest -- adn most creible -- way to assert higher value for the EPIC in an eVO shortage is to price it higher!

So if they go and ask for EVO and Sprint says they are out and the store rep or telesales can say to them: I have something better, " the custoemr is actually liable to be more happy -- especially, if as is entirely possible, the seller can "work something out" about mitigating the $50.

That is all without prejudice to the fact that this handset may easily and simply cost Spritn $50 more!

And once again, those saying this is a 25% increase in price from $200 to $250, have already FALLEN for the shell game of cell phone pricing. Why not just get a excellent phone for "FREE" then since Sprint and many carriers all have several?

I bet this handset sells just fine.

* Let face it, with tax, and even with some discounts plus 4g charge we will mostly be paying in the range of at least $60 per line month. That is $60x24 months or $1450 plus at least $260 for the phoen including tax. that is $1700.

I'll be honest Sprint just shot themselves in the foot here, $250 on the device + the $79.99 plan, this will NOT sell well folks,
