When my wife makes a call on her epic the screen goes black and wont light up to end the call, the only way to end the call is to open the slider and then the screen comes on. Is there a fix or do I have to take it back??

Tell her to move the screen away from her face and then within a second or so the screen should come back on - your phone has a photo sensor to darken the screen when it is near an object like your face so you don't accidently touch any on screen buttons.
When the phone is away from your face, you can dim the scrren again by putting your hand over the upper left corner of your screen where the light sensor is.

that is exactly what its not doing, it wont light back up, in fact as soon as you hit the call button the screen goes black.
I have this problem when a custom ROM breaks my proximity sensor. If your phone is stock you can try a factory reset. If the problem persists, you may have a bad sensor. However an easy workaround, as mentioned above, is to wake the screen using the power button.
The only way to get the screen back is to open the slider, i did a reset already also. The phone is only 5 days old so I will take it back and exchange it. Thanks for all the help everyone.

I've noticed this as well. The power button does light the screen up again. Moving the phone away from my ear usually lights it up, but only after a few second delay. Sometimes not at all. Not sure why.
