Epic users got there update, wheres are's?

Just curious but when did Sprint and HTC officially ever say the Evo was getting Gingerbread?

And if the Evo were to be getting it, it would be 2.4. The Desire S is coming out with 2.4 meaning that HTC is skipping 2.3.

We don't even know what features 2.4 will have AT ALL; yet, people are pissed at HTC and Sprint.

Also, people keep saying just get CM7...it's not the same w/out Sense. I actually think it's a downgrade (MY opinion). I have a stock Evo with a Gingerbread notification bar...i probably could fool you guys thinking it's 2.3 :P.

Uh yes we do what features 2.4 has. It is Gingerbread with dual-core support and not much else. Reason it is still called Gingerbread. Please guys if your going to write stuff like this, make sure you have done your research before posting.

Does the Evo have dual-cores? So 2.4 having dual-core support doesn't benefit the Evo. Please don't tell me to do my research, ok?

Yet neither does the new HTC devices that were announced with 2.4. So yes you do need to perform more research. Not trying to be offending... Just the truth to this matter.

For real, stop with saying I need to perform more research. Idk why you had to say anything to me. And of course I'm going to find it offending if you attack me when you don't have a valid point against me.

I was saying that the 2.4 update wouldn't provide anything to the Evo. We don't even know what the update will do for the Evo and people are already pissed.

You were not being a attacked, it was just advice. I apologize if that offended you. The point is very valid... Numerous sources have stated 2.4 is replacing 2.3. Just because it is more logical to do so with having that support in the system for dual-core. Basically trying to help the fragmentation of Android.

It has already been said by numerous sources that Google is skipping to 2.4 Gingerbread. So that is the reason we are seeing a delay for Gingerbread 2.3 on these devices. I had posted a thread awhile back about this. HTC's MWC conference all but confirmed that 2.3 would not be on the devices, seeing they were using 2.4.

This comment has proved itself false, as Google released the 2.3 update for Nexus One yesterday.

So no, Google is not skipping 2.3. Whether or not phone manufacturers will bypass it and go directly to 2.4, OTOH, remains to be seen.

Well HTC already did, if you had followed MWC you would know this. Google only updated the Vanilla phones. Has nothing to do with any of ours. They will continue to update the vanilla devices anytime they have a small upgrade. Just because they can push it directly to the device. Unlike with ours it has to go through the manufacturer first, and their UI must be built into it. So just because Google pushed 2.3.3 to the Vanilla devices does not mean that is the version others will see. It fixed reboot loops with Nexus S, and that needed to be addressed. Also remember that 2.4 source code isn't out until April, so why would Google update the vanilla devices to something that isn't out yet?

Did you read your own post? You said Google is skipping to 2.4. Obviously, they did no such thing.

And HTC does not constitute the entire Android manufacturing community, regardless of if they chose to skip 2.3 or not. And never did I say that they're not skipping 2.3.

ours is already on our device.
Granted, I am a bit jelly (jealous) of their new update and want one for the EVO. Dare I say, now that the devices are on even playing fields (for the time being, at least) I find myself actually loathing my EVO and wanting the EPIC. Be it the screen quality or the media hub, I'm not sure. May be just "the grass is always greener" theory, but I'd trade my EVO for an EPIC in a second.
thats definitely it IMO, my wife has the Epic and I gotta say I prefer my EVO any day

can you flamers quit with the pissing contest? Anything relevant to post would be more useful to others that want to read this thread.

If anyone is on Twitter, a good flood of demands for an Evo update couldn't hurt. Post to @HTC as well as @Sprint

For those thinking about trying a GB rom like CM7, I don't feel the Sense UI makes that much of a real difference. You can download a free widget that has a digital clock and weather (fancy widget) and all you will really lose is the ability to upload multiple pics to FB via HTC Facebook sync.

GB (at least on CM7) adds buttons for wifi, gps, bluetooth, which I love at least for Wifi control. It also adds a nice feature where a long press on a homescreen app brings up a menu of buttons including uninstall, edit, and remove (so you can edit the size the icon takes up, or just remove it from the homescreen). There's also a couple other additions but those may be CM7 add-ons vs GB. Point being Sense is nice but flashing GB is NOT a downgrade because you lose sense features.

To add fuel to the fire, I have read enough to understand that the next update on devices other than Nexus will be 2.4 (GB) Yes Evo doesn't have a dual-core, but obviously the additional support isn't designed for the Evo, but future devices.

I for one am getting anxious to find out when Sprint will be announcing a next gen device with Dual-core cpu. The couple devices they've announced to this point in the year are pretty sad, as many would argue the almost year old Evo still has the most features
