Alright, this is going to be a really long post, so bear with me.
First, let me explain what we really mean when we say or hear "all-metal". We know that phones are not "all-metal". Metal phones incorporate some parts made out of plastic to help with antenna reception. The HTC One M7 had plastic sides and antenna bands to help with reception. The iPhone 6 and 6s also had antenna bands made out of plastic, alongside the Huawei phones. However, with those phones, you are feeling metal since they are dyed aluminum.
In the case of the G5, to go alongside with the "microdizing" process on the LM201b aluminum, they painted it in a similar way to how a car is painted, by applying primer for the paint to stick and then putting the final coat. The result is that the G5 doesn't exactly feel like the One series or the Mate 8, and to those who have used those before, it feels odd and some might be put off by it. Simply put, it's different and not everyone likes it. And to be frank, Android Authority posted that headline when everyone thought it was indeed plastic. They probably should change it after the matter is cleared up, but the original one is still there.
And let's talk about the Android Police review. I'll be honest here. I actually agree with many points of the review, but I won't go into detail here because I'm not going to rant about stuff. AP's statement in the chin gap existing on every G5 is a bit of a stretch, but every unit I've seen has a gap between the chin module and the rest of the phone. The only thing is that they vary in size, so it's either more obvious or less obvious than the other. I know many here won't mind it, but as a person with OCD (seriously, I have a pretty bad case of OCD, it's not even funny), it really bugs me. But my biggest concern is the backlight bleed. More than a few units looks to have suffered from pretty bad bleed. The thin glass panel also causes the LCD to bloom in some cases. I know not everyone cares or has a unit that doesn't suffer from backlight bleed as bad, but to me, ehhhhh....it's not a good first impression.
All I can hope is that LG takes these concerns seriously and makes sure that future batches don't suffer from as much quality issues. To me, after having 2 G4s with serious quality control issues, seeing QC issues in the G5 just doesn't make me confident. *sigh*
