Erica Griffin and Jerry rig everything

Completely agree with you. Too many sites don't do their homework and fall prey to what what is known as click bait. All of the sites who said it was plastic, mainly Android Authority needs to send LG an apology. The G5 is great and is far from a flop.

(Update: LG responds) Turns out the all-metal LG G5 is actually half plastic - Android Authority

They said the G5 was half plastic??? How did they even measure that it is 50% plastic? LG DEBUTS THE G5, ITS FIRST EVER MODULAR SMARTPHONE | LG Newsroom - No where IN LG's press release do they claim the entire phone is 100% metal.

I watch revenues on a regular basis and I am greatful for artists like Erica who gives an unbiased opinion on the products that she reviews!. I watched the review that Erica did on the LG G5 and she is giving her honest opinion about the phone, and I agree with her!...The phone has some issues and needed to be addressed! ..

I think she received a prototype

Alright, this is going to be a really long post, so bear with me.

First, let me explain what we really mean when we say or hear "all-metal". We know that phones are not "all-metal". Metal phones incorporate some parts made out of plastic to help with antenna reception. The HTC One M7 had plastic sides and antenna bands to help with reception. The iPhone 6 and 6s also had antenna bands made out of plastic, alongside the Huawei phones. However, with those phones, you are feeling metal since they are dyed aluminum.

In the case of the G5, to go alongside with the "microdizing" process on the LM201b aluminum, they painted it in a similar way to how a car is painted, by applying primer for the paint to stick and then putting the final coat. The result is that the G5 doesn't exactly feel like the One series or the Mate 8, and to those who have used those before, it feels odd and some might be put off by it. Simply put, it's different and not everyone likes it. And to be frank, Android Authority posted that headline when everyone thought it was indeed plastic. They probably should change it after the matter is cleared up, but the original one is still there.

And let's talk about the Android Police review. I'll be honest here. I actually agree with many points of the review, but I won't go into detail here because I'm not going to rant about stuff. AP's statement in the chin gap existing on every G5 is a bit of a stretch, but every unit I've seen has a gap between the chin module and the rest of the phone. The only thing is that they vary in size, so it's either more obvious or less obvious than the other. I know many here won't mind it, but as a person with OCD (seriously, I have a pretty bad case of OCD, it's not even funny), it really bugs me. But my biggest concern is the backlight bleed. More than a few units looks to have suffered from pretty bad bleed. The thin glass panel also causes the LCD to bloom in some cases. I know not everyone cares or has a unit that doesn't suffer from backlight bleed as bad, but to me, ehhhhh....it's not a good first impression.

All I can hope is that LG takes these concerns seriously and makes sure that future batches don't suffer from as much quality issues. To me, after having 2 G4s with serious quality control issues, seeing QC issues in the G5 just doesn't make me confident. *sigh*

FWIW my js9500 also had clouding issues. I called Samsung and they replaced the whole front panel for free. It's perfect now.

Wow really!! I may have to give them a call. How long did they take to replace it?

Last Premium phone from LG was the V10. Period.
Unfortunately in my country it was not released, instead from G4 they went straight to G5. And the review by Erica put a hurtin' on peoples trust (unfortunately), it may simply be a one-off problem or a poor batch of G5 soup

I'm confused as to why anyone is posting on this board that doesn't own a G5 and doesn't plan to. What is your reason for being here? If Samsung is your phone of choice why aren't you on the Samsung board? I'm asking this not to be hateful but out of genuine curiosity. When I first joined Android Central it was because I was looking for answers about my phone specifically which I think was an HTC at that time. So I searched specifically for my phone. I don't believe that I've ever visited the other phones threads because it doesn't pertain to me. After searching for my phone and problem, I got the answers I needed to solve my issue and was very happy with the help offered on this site. Somehow that seems to have changed. Everything lately seems to be name calling and trash talking? Is this no longer a community to help fellow owners? Are we supposed to be visiting to the other phones and trashing them? C'mon people are we adults here or what? If you are not a fan of LG that is your prerogative but please go to the board of your phone and allow LG owners or people who might want an LG to post here so that those who have questions can get them answered. All this trash talk pushes the legitimate questions to the bottom and that helps no one.

Some like me, may buy the G5. I currently own a Note 5, but my next phone is either the s7 edge or G5. That's why non G5 owners may come here and post their opinions/concerns

If you read my post I said "doesn't own a G5 and doesn't plan to". If you're still up in the air I understand why'd you'd come, to gain information. It's those who have made up their mind to get something else then still hang here and bash the LG. They must have sad, lonely lives if they get their kicks bashing phones. It's an inanimate object and does not feel your scorn.

I feel like the Phandroid review was done by someone that really likes LG. I agree with their take, but I also got a device with no defects. I'm wondering how many review units had a defect. Just a though.

There's a definite pattern. Early reviews were probably influenced by prototypes that LG sent out. Everyone I know who got one says they were bad. Retail models seem to be better constructed for the most part.

I'm not going to point any fingers, but some of those early reviews were posted less than 24 hours after retail models were available.

I imagine LG may rethink allowing reviewers to have early access to "unfinished" devices in the future. That might not be a bad idea.

Yes. People that are interested in handsets in general or people that might be considering the phone and want opinions on it before they purchase. They have opinions based on what they've read. That being said there's a lot of over-reaction, hyperbole, fan boys (on every side), and even simple trolls involved. But hey that's the modern internet for ya!

Androidcentrals review was on both preproduction and carrier branded. Good review. Mixed bag. Still like the phone. Don't love it. Hope they don't make their next phone like it in some ways.
