Eris Cannot Play Youtube Videos

I also have the problem with not playing vids thru the YouTube app -browser works fine.

I hope someone posts a response to this issue soon -it's annoying

I have heard that the new update will fix this issue. I think that the last update made the application incompatible with the application. Maybe they should have come out with an updated version of the application in the app market instead of making us wait for an update so that we can watch YouTube videos through the notice applicaction.

I found that the youtube app doesn't work. However, playing the video in the browser using the HTC flash player does. Be sure that you have not changed the setting, turning off mobile viewing mode for your browser. If you do, you need to turn this back on otherwise the you tube thinks you are looking at the video with a PC and tries to make you download the latest flash player.

if you really want to watch youtube on app just update to the leak its works just fine, or just watch it in browser up to you

now the ideal thing to do here is to root your device.... here is the link.... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8699733/erisone010.apk
here are the instructions...

Step 1) download and install this apk
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8699733/erisone010.apk - VERSION 0.1.0

Step 2) Run, read disclaimer, press button

Step 3) Reboot, once rebooted your phone should have Amon's recovery. Yay.

Step 4) Use the recovery to flash rootme.zip that is now on your SDCard, or the custom rom of your choice.

Step 5) Go into settings, and turn usb debugging on. After you have root, please uninstall this app.

Just that easy.

i prefer this zip for your rom Cyanogenmod 10 ROM - TheUnlockr
i have tried three roms: the original rom it comes stock (WAS TOO SLOW), the KaosGingerbread ROM (keyboard was absolute crap and would type the number 4 when i wanted the letter "r") so i tried cyanogenmod-10-rom-8 and i have NO complains. **** this will delete your apps and stuff BACK UP YOUR INFO!!!!!****
you will hold volume UP button when u reboot you allow "unknown application providers" to set up your root from the link way above.... then u want to flash your cyanogenmod-10-rom-8 rom and then you will set up your phone thru the internet or activate it... then u have google play app as your new "android market" you can download the youtube app and then put in your account and it WILL play your youtube videos you want it to play.

I actually prefer the one-click root app that you'll find here: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html

Scroll down to "Scenario 5" and you can download JCase's 1-click app with a better version of Amon_RA Recovery, which allows you to control recovery with the hardware keys as well as the trackball (the "normal" version of Amon_RA requires the trackball, and many people have trouble with the Eris trackball.)

Step 2) Run, read disclaimer, press button

Step 3) Reboot, once rebooted your phone should have Amon's recovery. Yay.

The same instructions for the Scary Alien version I linked to above...

Step 4) Use the recovery to flash rootme.zip that is now on your SDCard, or the custom rom of your choice.

Flashing "rootme.zip" is only required if you want to run the stock Eris with root. If you are going to flash a custom ROM, then don't bother flashing rootme.zip.

Step 5) Go into settings, and turn usb debugging on. After you have root, please uninstall this app.

Just that easy.

I prefer these ROMs myself:

GSB: Written by xda-developers.com user Workshed, who was responsible for getting CM7 official support for the Eris. His ROM includes google apps, so it's just a single flash.

xtrSENSE: A 2.1 stock, Sense based ROM, just like stock, though faster. It also moves all application Dalvik cache out of the /data partition, giving more space for user apps. Of course, it's still Eclair, but it's also the fastest ROM for the Eris.

That one I have on my Dropbox: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/220420/Eris/xtrSENSE/xtrSENSE5.0.1.zip

Heh. The Eris is long past worrying about voiding a warranty. Brick rate is way lower than 5%. The only people who brick are people who are uncareful, or people who use ClockworkMod as the default recovery for the Eris. CWM is great for most phones, but there have been many Eris bricks.

For a good look at ways to recover bricked phones, look at this thread; we just recovered a brick this morning. http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/556826-stuck-in-boot-up-screen.html

This is great advice. Running Recovery, your phone will not charge when plugged in, so it's important to have a well-charged battery when you start.

One last thing: instructions for flashing a custom ROM:

- copy the rom zip file (do not unzip it) to your SD card
- start in Recovery by powering down phone and then starting up while holding VolUp. If that doesn't start recovery, pull the battery and start your phone while holding VolDn. This will start HBOOT. When prompted, press VolUp to start Recovery
- Select "Backup"
- Select "Nand backup" to backup your phone as it is now, just in case
- Return to the main menu
- Select "Wipe"
- Select "Wipe data/factory reset" (If you are planning to install xtrSENSE, you can skip this step. Otherwise, definitely do it)
- Return to the main menu
- Flash a zip from SD card
- Select the rom's zip file
- Restart phone

That should do it.

One last link: if you want to unroot and return to stock, flash (using the instructions above) the ROM Flashback21_v2, found here: [ROM][03/06/2011]FlashBack21 v2 -Return to Factory Stock - March 2011 OTA - xda-developers

The no radio version will be fine. This will return the Eris to complete stock with stock recovery and no root.
