Error: Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card

It sounds like you have the dreaded low storage warning. You'll have to back up and delete as much as you can from your phone.

If you have Android 4.1 or later, usually you can't install apps to the sdcard.

thanks. I will backup my phone and then restore to factory settings and start all over again. I have plenty of space. I tried installing an app that takes 2MB… considering that I have more than 700MB free. there's something else not letting me to install. If I had no storage as it claims.. it would install a 2MB app after deleting 2 apps of 7MB and 5MB.

Anyway… sad and annoying.

Go to sittings \storage and unmount your external card then install the application you want

I tried unmounting the external SD card, it didn't work for me. Neither cleaning catche. I just flashed a new Kitkat rom, and it worked fine for the first two days. Then it showed me this error whole I tried downloading an app. I can't even install an apk I downloaded. But if I try installing a smaller apk, it works. I really don't know what's happening. Nothing worked. Do I have to restore factory default? Is it because of the kernel. Please help me, cause I'm extremely confused.

If you can install a small apk but can't install a larger one, that would indicate that you don't have enough free internal storage for the larger app. (Or to download the app you can't download.)

I am 100% sure I have enough space : 4Gb on the external SD card and another 4 on the internal SD card.

I do not understand y u have to unmount the sd card to install the app. There has to be a better way...yes it works but u shoukd not have to use this run around.

I had this same problem this morning with my Epic 4G Touch... Found a post that solves the problem without unmounting the SD card:

Fixing The "Couldn't Install On USB Storage Or SD Card" Problem On Android

In short, it tells you to delete a temporary file named "smdl2tmp1.asec", but I recommend deleting any and all files with that .asec extention, especially if the problem is updating the app. For more details, just read the article carefully to understand why it happens.

I have a similar problem with this. I unmounted the card and installed the apps. However. I tried to transfer/move some mp3's that I downloaded from simple mp3 onto my sd card and it said moving failed. I tried using my astro file manager and the same thing happened.
any help would that would be greatly appreciated.
