ES File Explorer Qestion

I have a link set up on my PC that uses the Remote Manager on ES File Explorer to access the files on the phone. This works very good, except that even though I have ES set to keep the connection open upon exit, the connection fails if I exit ES.
The icon on the home screen actually shows connected, but it isn't until I launch ES again. I reinstalled the app but it won't do it.
Anybody have any ideas?
