Essential Order and Shipping Thread

And still my tracking number pulls up nothing on FedEx.com. This is probably the most frustrating launch I've ever been a part of.

Welcome to the club! The latest in a series of stall tactics. As soon as I can reject this package, I will. At this point I cannot stand the thought of giving $700 to this company.

You guys aren't going to believe this one (or maybe you will or already know).
First, I got an e-mail from essential just now, saying:
Hi,

Our order review team requires additional verifying information to complete the processing of your recent order.

This verification is performed to protect against unauthorized use of your payment information and similar to what is conducted for in-person purchases.

Please provide an alternative email and phone number to confirm this purchase..

We would like to request a picture of a photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, state ID, passport) clearly showing your photo, signature and address. NOTE: the address on the ID should match the billing address listed on your recent order.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.  Once verified, we look forward to shipping your order.

Thanks!

Essential Products Customer Care

So I figured: I'm in this far, I might as well...I put together something really quickly and sent it.

Since then (about 10 minutes ago), I've received around 30 e-mail messages that look like they are meant to go *TO* Essential, with everyone else's responses, including pictures of their driver's license.

The original e-mail message to me was BCC'd, like it should be. But some how it has me as the responsible support engineer for all of these replies. They start like:

You are registered as a CC on this request (12366). Reply to this email to add a comment to the request.

Some of the replies are not very pleasant, and a lot of them are canceling. In the time I've been typing this post, at least 20 more have come in.

More sadness for my order:
presumably because my billing address and shipping address are different, I just got an email from Essential saying they needed additional info and ID picture to verify my purchase. I'm guessing why this is why my initial order never got fully processed.
Still confuses my why it would take 13 days for them to notice and request this. Oh well.

And I guess it's not me, because one of the replies just said this:
Dear All,

Please note you are sharing personal information with people who are NOT Essential Inc. personnel, but with other customers!

Essential please revise this and fix your communication systems.

They still keep coming in! I'm acquiring quite a collection of driver license scans and phone numbers, here...

Unfortunately, one of them was my own!

I have around 100 people's driver license scans and PII, including e-mail and phone numbers now, and they are coming in at about 1 per second.

This is great. You got fished. The different address didnt delay your order. They shipped my phone to a completely different address than my billing address and my phone is in transit to me and will arrive Thursday.

Considering I am a professor of cybersecurity, it would be pretty bad if I got Phished. But no, it's actually from Essential.

But still don't you think the email is suspicious and why the hell they need all that info. Personally, wouldn't give that info unless you are applying for some loan, credit or something like that right?

One guy also attached his entire credit card statement for good measure, just now. Still coming in - albeit slower.

Of course. It's ridiculous! But everything this company has done has been ridiculous. I double-checked my outbound, and it definitely went to essential.com.

So others are getting that dumb assed Google identity confirmation email? presented as essential customer care?

Here is my reply:

So let me get this straight. You want me to provide personal information including:

A photo ID - not that you have any idea what I look like, nor should you
An additional phone number - because my phone number isn't pretty enough?
My signature - so you can loose the information and help someone steal my identity

Apparently you are using Google's identity department which is both unfortunate and foolish.

This is the same group that requested my spouse's drivers license to verify my identity.

You can either process my order with the information I provided (and successfully verified with the credit card company for the phone) (and fully charged and collected for the camera) or you can pound sand.

With the number of inaccurate statements with this order (bordering on lying) , I'm less than enthusiastic to provide Google with information that is absolutely none of their business or receive the PH1.

Wow ... I bet the leaders of this company still won't utter a word and some people here will still defend ...well it's not essentials fault.
