Essential Order and Shipping Thread

Could be a disgruntled employee. The personal info definitely went to support@essential.com and customercare@essential.com. Didn't go anywhere else from the sender. One or both of those Essential addresses were misconfigured and ended up sending to everyone who replied.

Both of those addresses are now completely disabled, so you can't send to either of them anymore. Hopefully that will be fixed soon, so the complaining can resume. But for now, you can't even reach support.

They probably just shut off support email because they have run out of robotic replies. Andy Rubin is THE only reason anyone had any real interest. That's faded long ago.....

Conspiracy theory/tinfoil hat:

Disgruntled employee tired with our complains, says **** it let me screw all of you by asking personal info and share with everyone. Bonus for him/her, no longer has to reply anymore since support is shut off and probably was ready to quit anyway.

Sorry for those customers who got involved in this ****.

Considering I am a professor of cybersecurity, it would be pretty bad if I got Phished. But no, it's actually from Essential.

I think you got phished regardless where it came from. You don't have to be a professor to know not to provide that info just to buy a phone. I be willing to bet anyone that purchased through Affirm didn't get this email. I didn't. Think about it, now "Essential" or someone posing as such has your credit card info from before and now your driver's license. Now what could we do with that information? Pretty much buy anything we want. I don't provide my credit card and my driver's license to anyone unless in person.

Ok I pre-ordered it on Amazon last night AFTER they took it off their site and put it back up. I just got an official email from Amazon indicating it was cancelled due to some issues and was led to Amazon site to reorder with a $20 discount. I did including the $3 one day delivery charge. Still says to be "released on September 1."

I also received the please verify your identity email. This is too weird for me. I think I'll wait until after launch and reevaluate this purchase.

Conspiracy theory/tinfoil hat:
After reading the quoted email again, I'll go with the conspiracy theory that it might have been a hacked account or spoofed email. The message asked for an alternate email address and far more personal info than any company would reasonably need to complete an e-commerce transaction.

I'd love to see the full email with header since I didn't receive one. Every email I've ever received from Essential has been from support@essential.com, including my shipping confirmation. Nothing has ever come from customercare@essential.com.

I'm not defending anyone here but I'm also not writing it off as a mistake without more info. It certainly looks fishy and worthy of investigation.

You would think essential would come out and explain what happened. But I think they will pretend as if this thing never happened and go on with their business as usual.

Nothing from them on Twitter yet. It's sleepy time in Cali. Maybe tomorrow.

It could have been a Zendesk hack or some sort of email relay. I'm not on the inside of the email chain to see what really happened. This is interesting: https://twitter.com/Bogorad/status/902706162092597248

Reading through this when I got up this morning is pretty crazy. I'm rooting for the company, but they will need a lot of good pr to help with the multiple stumbles they've had in such a short period.

Huzzah! FedEx just updated. No eta, but it's in transit.

Really sucks about the phishing scheme, can't help but wonder if essential was more forthcoming about what was happening that less people would've fallen for it.

I don't think Essential is at fault with number of people that fell for it. No one should have provided that level of information by email. And many need to fall for it to have it noticed.

Pre-ordered my phone on the 16th and card charged on the 22nd. Received my tracking info on the 26th but since the 26th the tracking info has yet to update. From the moment I got the tracking info all it has said is shipment pending. This was all after I was told by two separate people that my order had been cancelled. I reached out to Essential after I received my tracking info and they said the cancellation didn't go through. My money was never returned and my phone is essentially nonexistent. I've tried contacting essential the last two days but no one will respond to me.

What the heck, my status went from in transit to shipment label created with fri delivery and now it says "shipment exception" with delivery date next Wednesday.

For those that have yet to receive shipping information, myself included, I suggest you contact your credit card company and have them get involved.

Also, for those with complaints regardless if you've received shipping or not, I strongly encourage you to file a complaint with the BBB. It doesn't take but a few minutes and your voice is more likely to be heard than on here. I had to manually enter their information as it wasn't stored in the BBB database yet.

Yeah, I'm fed up with the silence from Essential and having ordered on the 16th, and been charged on the 22nd yet receiving zero feedback or shipping info I've begun a chargeback with Amex. This is ridiculous.

Since Saturday, mine has never changed from this.
