Essential Releasing Official Android 9 Pie Today

I was in the Beta with my Pixel, but jumped on Essential when Amazon ran the $250 deal on Prime day. I love it so far. My only let down was that getting on the P beta wasn't as simple as with my Pixel. As I was trying to puzzle out how to do it the final release pops up! Great job. Have we heard when we might get on the newest security patch? Although I love the new Pie I know I want the best security as well.

Actually, the Android P update has the August security patch. Per Essential, they were excited to release the patch and, while the code for the patch is included, they simply forgot to update the date where it appears in settings. They do plan on sending out an update to correct the Security Patch date but they have not announced when.

This ph-one is the budget priced Nexus line we had been asking for. I am amazed to see reviewers recommending budget phoneses with budget specs over this one. I love it. Battery life has been excellent for me and it gets updated regularly.

The new update reminds me of the palm Pre with the swipe up to close app gesture. With Mathias at Google I was hoping to see it sooner. I hope other pre esque gestures follow suit.

My phone just got even better with Pie! , No issues at all, no resets, apps work fine and the new settings make it a lot easier to use.

Im coming from BB, windows phone samsung 7 and for me this is tue best phone so far, I hope they keep making good phones

Got my 9.0 OTA on unlocked Essential PH-1 on 8/6/18. Nice work Essential, but I guess you have way more time to ensure quick updates now that there is no PH-2 in the pipeline.

Loved the Palm Pre for Synergy, gestures. And wireless charging. All ahead of their Apple and Android competition. Some of Synergy has also made its way into Pie, I think. I'd like to see more Synergy in future Android releases.

this absolutely surpasses my wildest dreams, after my tremendous camera disappointment this is a huge plus for essential...

I was surprised to see my PH-1 battery down to 2% this AM. But after checking in settings I found that it had been 25 hours since full charge and 9+.hours SOT! I'm so pleased that I bought three PH-1s! My wife and son have the other two. BTW, the camera is not so bad because I have never had very high expectations for cellphone cameras. The PH-1 camera is just adequate and about the level of low-end point-and-shoot cameras. I use Nikon and Leica equipment when I want serious photos.

Way to go Essential!

I feel same way. I was one of those people who passed on the essential when it was first release due to horrible reviews. After a year long of improvements, I would consider this phone amongst the top tier high end smartphones. I hope essential as a company rebounds and makes a version 2.

Really loving this phone. Don't even miss my note 8 for a second.

Maybe I'm way behind the curve, but I'm just noticing that PH-1 maybe stands for PH-one or Phone . . ? 🙂 . . So the Essential PH-1 is the Essential Phone 😄 . (ya, it's late here).

This is a known issue. Essential reported on Twitter that in their haste to roll out Android 9 Pie on the first day, they forgot to update the Security Patch release date. The patch is the August 05, 2018 code, but the date is wrong. They said the date would be corrected in a future update.

awesome, thanks...i can delete my post of about an hour ago...
