Everything Odin

GADGET serial driver

When I go into download mode on the Captivate, I keep getting a found new hardware and then needs Gadget Serial Driver. I have tried PC studio and it does not work. I am trying to use Odin.

Rooted with the one click shown in the Video I have the SDK package installed
Odin installed and it does show com 4 when I plug my phone in.
ROM Manager seems Clockwork is installed though I did not use a different kernel.
Titanium Backup
Droid Explorer which constantly locks up on my computer when trying to use.

I have watched the videos and I have done a search in XDA and here and google....All I get is use PC studio for Samsung

Just to let anyone know who is having the Gadget Driver problem that a solution was given to me by mnemonicj. He is a member at Android Forums and he told me to Download Kies. I was not sure which one so I did Kies Mini and it solved the problem.

1 Click Odin Stock ROM 2.1 AT&T?

I am newbie to Android. So, please bear with my questions below. I used to own an iphone before, and when you reloaded the OS that you get from Apple you know it is the original. With Android it is little different.

I rooted my captivate and now I need to return it to AT&T. Need to load the original ROM.

I did download Odin 1 Click for android 2.1 AT&T Stock ROM? How do I know that it is the actual ROM AT&T/Samsung had put on the Captivate?

There are so many ROMS everybody is putting it out there...just wanted to be sure. I know AT&T or Samsung just don't give out the ROM. So, how do you get the actual Stock ROM ???

If I have posted this in the wrong forum, please let me know.

Thanks

The 1 click odin that's out there is stock. You'll know because 1) all the AT&T bloatware will be there ;) and 2) in about phone you'll see JF6. 3) you'll no longer have root.

ODIN flash to stock and master clear didn't clear files

So I consider myself to still be a bit of a noob to flashing ROMs but I've done it successfully twice and am currently in the middle of my third attempt. I owe my success to careful reading, research and the awesome how-to videos from MobileTech at the top of this forum.

I'm currently flashing to Andromeda and I noticed almost by accident after I used ODIN to flash back to stock and then do a Master Clear that all my files and folders were still on the phone (?!?!)

Is this something that anyone else has noticed? Did I do something wrong this time?

The only reason I noticed anything different was that when my phone booted and I mounted it after it came back from the Master Clear operation I accidentally hit the "open folder to view files" option when windows piped up to tell me a device had been plugged in. There before my eyes were all the files I thought I just wiped... anyone?

I'm going to go ahead with the flash and see what happens... I didn't deviate from the instructions and the procedure I've followed the other two times I've flashed so...

are you sure you are not looking at the SDcard,,,,and did you remove voodoo kernel if you were running one,, not sure if this would effect things but it may

I don't have an external SD card if that's what you're suggesting... I flashed back to Stock via ODIN and then did a Master Clear via ODIN... I thought that wiped everything? I was running speedmod kernal with phoenix rising 3.5 before I went back stock... Had a little trouble rooting, took three tries but It's rooted now and I think I'm back on track... still don't get why my files are still there though.

I dont know, ill talk to connexion2005 maybe he can address what may be happening

Noob Question about Odin

Well I have been reading the forms for a few hours now and can't find this question explicitly answered. If I use ODIN to update to 2.2, can get the official update from ATT when it finally comes out?

One way, or the other, yes. It may or may not be through at&t/Samsung official channels but it will be available to you in some form.

Thanks! I also discovered that once I'd flashed the ROM completely it worked fine. (It's an excellent ROM, really speedy) But when I restored my settings I started getting constant FCs on swype... even if I wasn't typing anything.

I narrowed it down by re flashing ROM and restoring all my apps which worked fine, then started restoring my settings one by and restarting after each restore... I think the FCs started happening after I restored my contacts...

I tried to ask over at xda last night but couldn't post... I'm going to post the question today to see if anyone else has had that sort of behavior... I think I'm going to have to use another ROM for the time being but want to help the developers by posting my bugs...

When you restore your data with TiBU, just restore missing App Data and do not restore system data, that will cause the constant FC issues. Trust me especially with going from jf6 *eclair* to any of the froyo roms.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of that but I'll give it a whorl. I went back to stock today and started from scratch. I'm almost finished with the fresh Andromeda flash and will see how it works now.

i have been wait on Odin for 2 hours with nothing. How long doe it usually take?
It read the device as ID:0/033 - I can't set to debugging mode b/c I am locked to to ATT splash screen on boot up. No SIM or SD in device

A few minutes. You need to be in Download mode to use Odin. If you are seeing the ATT screen, you have passed your opportunity to enter download mode and need to pop your battery and try again. Easiest way-

Remove battery on phone
Open Odin on PC
Connect USB to phone
Hold both VOLUP and VOLDOWN while inserting battery

Welcome to download mode, flash away.

Just throwing it in- Master clear is NOT done from Download mode, but from a working, booted, running phone that has USB debugging on.

Thx, i can get into download mode, if I just try to the use the fone as normal all i get i the AT&T screen. when running Odin it just sit for hours - right now its on the File Analysis portion... not doing anything

Make sure you are using a REAR USB port, one that is physically connected to the motherboard of your computer. Do not use a front USB.

You MUST flash with Odin now, if your phone will not get past the ATT screen. Sounds like a flash started and failed for whatever reason... nothing to do but try try again now.

Got it back to stock, thx! time to flash some new stuff!!
something i noticed -
I was using a GigaWare brand data cable with usually works with the phone just fine. Today I happened to use the Samsung cable & it worked the first try.

*edit - spellcheck failed me

Yes for normal use after market cables are fine, but when dealing with Odin its very sensative about how its connected
