Evidence of last minute changes

Rob thanks for sticking it out on the phone for so long. I too had the double tape.

Mine had two pieces of tape also but the tablet itself didn't look messed with.. I Suspect that maybe they changed the documentation in the box... maybe the quick start guide had a typo or something...

I had double tape also. I do not believe the 1 in 100 quality check line given by engineer. Maybe be nothing at all but interesting.
Please post if your box was double taped.
My unit -
Play Store PreOrder - 16gb
Ordered June 28, 2012.
Received July 17, 2012.

so much for quality check. Mine was opened and the speaker doesn't work
On second look I see my box was double taped as well. I checked off to have my account pre-loaded and when I fired it up, it asked me for my password. What's odd is that I had a smattering of my apps (e.g. Spotify, Dolphin HD) already loaded including some that require root (i.e. Superuser & Titanium Backup) which I didn't download. No idea why those and not some others.

As for a quality check, I've got a messed up screen that's blown-out gray and terrible until it warms up and looks great after 10 minutes or so. I can't believe this thing made it out of the factory with such a glaring defect. They must have moonlighting umpires working the inspection lines. Now I'm waiting for them to call me back sometime later this week to arrange replacement.

Wow! So this so called quality check is not checking everything.

I think they are only checking for packing issues, like missing cable or power supply.

UPDATE:

OK, just got off the phone with Google Customer Support.

The support rep had no reason.

Logged it into my account, and told me open box with him on the line.

After opening it and not noticing anything bad, as I expected.

I asked him if he could ask someone why they did this.

We were lucky that a Nexus 7 engineer was on hand.

Turns out, it was a quality check. He said they pull maybe 1 out of 100 and open the box to make sure this batch of units came out OK from manufacturing.

So it was one of the reasons some users said it might be.

It is not for account preload.

So all ends well after all, and I have my reason.

I told him that should have put a sticker on the box, he agreed.

I think the "Nexus 7 engineer" was the person sitting next to him at the call center. Mine showed up with this lovely message.

And the screen on the left side is raised up.

Quality check my anus...

When I was setting up my unit it already had my email address, which is also tied to my Google Play account which I used to make the device purchase. Interesting ...

Hey guys, finally recieved my Nexus 7. So far so good, but I noticed something during unboxing. It appeared as though the two stickers that held the black portion of the box shut, were at one point cut through, as though the box was opened for some reason and then taped over with a second set of stickers. I took some pics I will post in a while when I download them.

Did anyone else notice this? Is this evidence that some kind of last minute hardware change was made that could have cause a shipping delay? Or did someone just decide to play with mine and then box it back up again?
Mine had black tape. No stickers.

Mine had been re-taped also but showed no other signs of unpacking. No finger prints, no open wrappers, etc. I have the loose screen/glass problem too. It makes a slight click when I press on the left/middle side when in portrait orientation.

Mine did not have the double tape. Stickers were sealed & uncut. Pre-ordered from the Play Store w/ no account preload. Haven't noticed any problems.

If you left the box checked that what happened.

Amazon did the same thing last year with the Kindle Fires except as memory serves they did it WITHOUT telling you, Phil talked about it in one of the podcasts and I am sure also wrote something about it. He ordered one that was to be given away and it had his info in it and he had to do a reset before shipping it off.

Holy overreaction batman! That or my sarcasm detector is broken.

They had to open ur box to pre-load your Google account... perhaps you should use some deduction before firing off? "I checked the checkbox where they preloaded my account onto my Nexus. I wonder how they got that in there? They could have opened my box and loaded it in via USB.... OR they could have used magic. I think magic is the likely answer here. I'm contacting my congressmen! WHAT WHERE THYE THINKGINGD@!"

Hehe thanks for the laugh

If you read on the order form details, it's done by your serial number.

So once you turn on your wifi, it will automatically send your serial number in and if you selected for preloaded, it sends your login info, and not your password.
