Coming from an OG Evo (charging port broke) I now have a Nexus S 4g rooted with a Gummy Nexus ICS rom. I've been doing some research and love the specs the Evo 3D has but was wondering if I should really get it or just hold out for the EVO 4G LTE. All comments are appreciated.

Personally I'm more than happy with my Evo 3D and have no interest in upgrading anytime soon even if I could.

Depends on whether you want a great phone or want the latest and/or best phone. It's all a matter of personal preference/opinion.

I'm in total agreement on this one. I also have the Evo 3D and absolutely love it. In fact I'm probably not going to upgrade when the Evo 4g LTE comes out in June. That being said the 3d is officially on it's way out the door and probably won't get the next android OS past ICS. Whereas the Evo 4g LTE will come out the door with ICS and will more than likely get updated from there at least once with whatever the next version of android is called (Jellybean, Jam, Jiffy Peanut Butter). If you really want the 3d function there have been rumors of a 3d version of the Evo 4g LTE coming out but who knows if or when it will be released. So keep that in mind when making your decision.

I live in philly. LTE isn't even here yet. Sprint says 6 months to get up and running and 2015 will be the year its fully functioning. If the signal is anything like the 4g I get now, I'm in trouble. It's very weak reguardless of how fast the speeds are. I'm not going to be mobile gaming on a touch screen either so the speeds seem like a waste.

Personally, if I had an upgrade I'd definitley get the Evo LTE. But since I don't I'll be happy with my 3D for the next yet. You need to ask yourself these questions:

Do you want a phone that will last you a full 2 year contract or you do want something cheaper that you can replace in 9 months? The Evo LTE is as "future proof" as possible right now. The Evo 3D is a solid phone right now, but in a year when it's not getting the latest updates, and struggling to run new apps and game how will you feel then?

Do you care about 3D? I think the general consensus is that the 3D feature is a gimmick that most people don't use anymore. It's impressive at first, but there aren't any sources for 3D movies unless you want to figure out how to rip from 3D blu-rays. Do you want to take 3D photos and videos that you might not be able to view/play years from now? Now I say that, but some people LOVE the 3D feature.

What's your 4G situation? Do you currently have WiMax and are you willing to go back to 3G until LTE shows up? If you don't have WiMax in your area, then you won't get it, but you should eventually get LTE.

How do you feel about not having a removable battery?

Do you need/want the latest and greatest features? Some people care, others don't. The Evo LTE consistently has newer/better specs. I summarized them in another post, I'll copy and past below.

Processor: it's only 0.3 GHz faster, but GHz aren't everything. From the benchmarks coming out it looks like the Evo LTE processor will blow the Evo 3D processor out of the water
Camera: again, blows the Evo 3D out of the water, but no 3D if you care.
Screen: This sounds like the best screen ever created for a smartphone. (More water blowing) again, no 3D if that matters to you
4G: WiMax is dead. I don't know if you have WiMax in your area, but I don't. No one has Sprint LTE yet, but Sprint claims that it will be rolled out quickly and agressively. So I'm hoping to get it in New Orleans eventually. If you're in a decent sized city, you should get it too ... eventually
Beats Audio: supposedly better sound quality if you have or purchase a decent set of headphones... meh
Storage: It has a lot more storage than the 3D and still has an SD card slot
Battery: It's definitly a bigger battery, but it's not removable
Kickstand: Woot!
OS: Sense 4.0 vs Sense 3.6 (after ICS upgrade). I don't what the differences are (and I'm keen to find out), but I'm just pointing out that we won't be running the same version of ICS as them.

Your decision will be made when you see the Evo LTE in person. Right now the closest you can get is the HTC One X so if your local ATT has one you can ogle it there. I can assure you it will be a very quick decision.

Before anyone makes decisions on upgrading, try flashing zr3d,eternity,meanrom or the new sk Rom and see what your decision will be then!

I flashed mean ROM to my phone and I must say by rooting your phone does make you want to keep your device longer. I may even skip out on the first generation of
LTE devices.

Rooting my phone changed everything for me! And every time I flash a new Rom makes me feel like I have a brand new device.

I don't care much for the 3d. But pretty much everything else that the 3d has, I like. Dual core processor, 4.3 inch screen with a solid display and Sense. Like I said, I have a rooted Nexus S 4g and rooted myself so more likely than not I'll be rooting the Evo 3D if I get it. I'll be getting the EVO LTE but until a while after its out
I'm not due for an upgrade till December and I'm not willing to pay $300+ for a phone. The question I'm really asking here is how much better is the Evo 3d than the Nexus S and is it really worth it to switch over to the Evo 3d. I appreciate the replies

Got the EVO 3D for $165 from a guy a Craigslist. Coming from the rooted Nexus to Stock EVO 3D with Sense 3.0, this thing blows the Nexus out of the water! I won't be rooting for a while :)

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your Evo 3D as we have gotten out of both of ours for the last 10 months. Unless there is a major improvement with LTE coverage in my area over Wimax, I'm set for a while!! :D

Today makes day 2 with my EVO 3D. I've been testing out 3g on this thing and It's srangely fast. Everywhere I go I have almost full signal except at home but I'm on WiFi there. I live in Texas in the EDEN area so that might have something to do with my signal being so good. This phone is a huge win! I can't imagine what the EVO 4G LTE will be like!

I'm happy as hell with my EVO 3D running xplod rom which is amazing! The Sony widgets are by far better than htcs still running a glimpse of sense with the pinch home screen. Besides why go with LTE if you won't be able to fully use or become stable until a year later.. Wimax works great here in the LA metro area. I remember I jumped on 4G when it first came out on sprint and it was garbage

Unless you need a phone RIGHT now you would be dumb to settle for the 3D over the LET version.

Things to consider...

3D pictures. Are hey any use to you? Would you use it?

WiMax 4G in your city. Is that your option currently? If not then I don't worry about this. (WiMax will remain in use until 2015 or something like that is what I was reading.)

Kickstand. I hate it but some people love it.

Just a few things to think about!

EVO 3D is not for the average user. Taking no one really makes use of it but very few do like myself. I happen to display my images on my 3D optoma projector and share with other photographers in forums who happen to experiment with 3D images not only with the phone but DSLRs as well. Other then that its a great phone not concerned about WiMAX as its perfect in Los Angeles.

+1 get the EVO LTE this week. You won't regret it as its far superior than the e3d
