Evo 801.11n?

I thought I read on here that the EVO's hotspot feature was using wireless N. My notebook along with my son's notebook are both rated for N and have used N before, but with my EVO it is only working as a G. Is there a setting or do I have to be in 4G to get the N to work?

3g is like 802.11g and 4g ie like 802.11 n so ya you would need to be in an 4g area to get it to work

At the speeds we're working with even G is fine. N is really only necessary if you're transferring large files over a network or streaming HD content. For the hotspot feature (even in 4G) 802.11G is just fine. The other advantage of N is range but I imagine your EVO isn't that far away from any of the laptops.

No, completely wrong, usguyver. No relationship between the two at all. The evo does support 11n, but only at 2. 4 GHz. If your router operates at 5GHz the evo won't see it.

I believe the OP was referring to using the EVO as a mobile hotspot, not connecting the EVO over WiFi to a router.

Ya i'm a bit confused myself with where this thread is at lol... I THINK the OP was asking if the Evo can tether through N. The answer is no. Just tried it. My laptop shows Radio type: 802.11g

There was an update a while ago, sometime in July I believe, that gave it N support. The N radio is there, for some reason it just wasn't enabled.

i believe you are correct.
However, this 'N' capability is only available through some hex editing.

Nope, that article was written before the official update unlocked the N capabilities of the Wifi radio. No hex editing involved at all. My EVO is sitting next to me connected to an N network right now.

The EVO cannot tether at N speeds, however.

Adding more proof, the evo does indeed support wireless N with the most recent update with no "hacking" of the device. I am currently connected to my wireless N router with the evo at 65MB/s and the router is reporting it as a wireless N device.

Biggest pet peeve of mine: I did the freaking reading or I wouldn't be talking! I don't like when people tell me to do more reading. I've owned an EVO before and looked this up way back in early July. Please, correct me only if you're dead certain and don't do it in the form of "Uh, read again" or whatever.

Anyways, it does have wireless N support, but I have no idea if there is through tethering (haven't done THAT much on the Evo).

the EVO n is only 2.4ghz NOT 5ghz, which most people associate with n
2.4 n tends to be a hog if you have b/g clients connected also
