Well, I finally got my new HTC Evo last Wednesday and I am loving it. It replaces a Palm Pre. Like the Pre, it will pair correctly with my 2009 Infiniti G37S. However, it doesn't work correctly. I can use the car to place a call, and it will dial the phone, and you can hear the speakers click a bit and then it immediately switches the voice to the phone and will not continue through the car. Does the same thing if I initiate the call from the phone. It will interact with the car for a split second and then revert back to the handset. If someone calls ME, the car rings, and I can answer the phone call from the car, then it acts like it loses the call, but the phone has answered- the caller hears nothing, my stereo returns to music and the map returns. I don't have a problem using my Treo bluetooth headset with the Evo.

I tried deleting the phone pairing from the car and re-pairing (interestingly, there is no option that I could find to delete the pairing on the phone). Made no difference. There are no "advanced" or other settings on the car at all.

This is extremely upsetting. Never had such a problem with the Pre- it worked fine. One would think that a 2009 car and a 2010 phone would have no problems. Is anyone else having this type of problem? Any other Infiniti + Evo users out there? I searched Google and see lots of people with various types of bluetooth problems with all kinds of cars and phones, but not this exact combination.

I will, of course, contact the dealership and share any info I discover. But I have a bad feeling about this. :(

Couple ideas.. This happened when I had my Hero paired with my Avic-Z110BT Pioneer In-Dash GPS unit..

I had my hero paired.. Then I paired my Evo when I got it. What happened was odd.. The Music profile went to my hero and my phone calls went to my Evo. They split the profiles between each other.

How did I find this out? I was so frustrated because with my Hero I would just get in my car and it would handle Music and Voice all at once, never one or the other. So I started toying around with the Bluetooth settings and I found that I had to give my Evo access to BOTH profiles, Music and Phone. Once I did that, It would handle everything perfectly.

So I recommend checking settings in your car to make sure the Evo has full access to all bluetooth profiles.

Thanks for the tips/ideas. Unfortunately, there isn't much else I can try- the Infiniti doesn't have multiple profiles, has no "advanced settings" type menus, and I deleted the other phone before pairing the new phone (so there was only one device before, and one now). Repeated re-pairing doesn't help (they have no problems pairing... that part seems to work fine).

my Audi a8 is giving me trouble with the evos' bluetooth. I have owned different phones before with no real issues. It connects and disconnects at will. The other day it got stuck in "call" mode and would not get out. Had to go the dealer and have MMI reset. They are taking the car at the end of next week and replacing the bluetooth module. I will be really upset if this does not correct the problem as this is a basic important feature I need working. I will post back after next weekend if it is the bluetooth module or an Evo phone issue.

I have a 2008 G37 coupe. I've used my phone and it worked fine. I'll test it again to make sure, but I think its working. I had issues with the Bluetooth when I first got my Pre, but after one the first WebOS update the issue was solved.

I know your G37 is an 09, but my 08 should have the exact same bluetooth.

I just did a check and my EVO and 2008 G37 work fine together. I just made a 3 minute call without any issues.

I have had many Bluetooth and G37 issues, so I wouldn't be surprised if its the car and not the EVO's issue.

I have noticed odd behavior when paired phone is not the #1 spot on the car's pair list. The issue I was having was that it would not pair at all the time when not in the #1 spot.

I would also try to see if you can pair with another car's Bluetooth. The day I got my Pre I was having major issues, so I tested it in my friends BMW and it worked fine. I really believe there is something off about the G37's Bluetooth. I think that it only works well with certain phones. Not sure, but I really think its the car's issue and not the EVO's.

@ohseedee- thank you very much for the info. I can't quite remember if the 2008 and 2009 are the same electronics, but I think they are. Of course, they might have different "firmware" versions (and it wouldn't surprise me if they did). I assume you have the full nav package like me?

I never had problems with pairing the Pre to the G37, and I was a day-one owner of the Pre. But there was tons of static and I was unable to transfer the phonebook. Like you, after the first WebOS update, the static disappeared and I was also able to transfer the phonebook.

Although I can't use the Evo for calls, and it is paired fine, and I can CONTROL it from the G37, I also didn't see any option on the Evo for uploading the phonebook/contacts. That would be a minor annoyance, nowhere near to the level of what I am dealing with right now.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else with a bluetooth car I can try pairing and operating with. But I have no problems operating with my old Treo bluetooth headset. I know this- I do plan to contact the dealership, and I will probably also visit them, and THERE I will get them to let me pair/operate with cars on their lot. I am sure they will have some 2009's there. Looking at Infiniti's "bluetooth" website, it seems they are not very adept at working with phones. And they neither list the Evo (or many other phones) as either "supported" nor "unsupported". Infiniti Bluetooth | Wireless Phone Technology | Infiniti USA

When you spend $44K on a high-end car and buy the best phone, you just don't expect to have to deal with this kind of frustration for something that should be so simple :(

Worked perfectly with 2009 Escape Hybrid (Sync).

Works perfectly with 2010 Lincoln MKX (Sync) and does text to voice.

Buy American.

Yeah I have the full Navigation and sport package on my G. I really love my car, but I really think there are major issues. I spent a LOT of money on this car and I've had to take it in for many issues. About a month ago I had to take it in to get a part replaced that was draining my battery, which required me to jump start it. The 2008 (the year I have) is the first year of the complete redesign, so I did expected some issues.

I think trying the EVO on other cars at Infiniti is a great idea. Hopefully you can try on an 2010 and the 2010s wont have the issue. I would also try non G models. I've had some problems trying to convince the dealer of issues (for example rattling noises). I've also had my Nav completely crash and require me to turn off the car and restart.

Back when I was having issues with my Pre I did some research and I found that certain Nissan models were also having the exact same issue. The static you are describing is the same issue I was having

I love my G coupe....just not sure I'll buy another Infiniti in the future.

Why don't you take your narrow-minded trolling somewhere else. Half of the "foreign" cars driven in this country ARE made in America, and half the "American" cars are made outside this country. And that doesn't count parts, which are also a mixture. While you are at it, perhaps you should throw your 100% non-American phone in the trash. In fact, probably 100% of everything electronic in your house is "foreign", including most if not all your appliances, and half of everything else you buy.

While I think most of what you're saying is probably true, I don't think those 2 words warrant such a response, nor would I consider the poster to be trolling.

Let's keep this discussion focused on the topic at hand.

Is it possible that the Evo's blue tooth signal is too weak? Read your cars manual and see if there is anything in there to help.

I thought that might be the case, so I did try moving the phone around in the car to various locations with no success.

Wonder where the bluetooth receiver is in your car? It could be a problem on the Evo's end, an issue with a crappy antennae. Not the first we have heard of this issue.

I have no idea. I do have the factory manual, but it really doesn't say/show. When coupled with my Treo headset, the Evo has a slightly better range. Since the Pre worked fine in the same car, I have to conclude that it is probably not signal strength.

It could be interference though. Either that or a software issue. I would talk to your Infiniti dealer about the issue, see if they have any insight.

SOLVED

I am not sure why, though. I did the same thing as before- I deleted the car from the phone, I deleted the phone from the car, repaired it again and after the pairing, the calls would transfer from the phone audio to the car audio.

Since this last time, I had rebooted the phone (actually, I think it is the first time I had ever rebooted it since I got it). Not sure if that was the key, but it works!!!

Unfortunately, I can't get the phonebook transfered to the car, though. It was easy on the Pre. On the EVO, I choose the option on the car, it says to use the transfer option on the phone and use the passcode of "1234" when prompted". The phone "disconnects" the bluetooth from the car, and sits there and does nothing. Eventually the car will timeout with "failed" and then the phone will reconnect to the car. I tried various different options with no results. At least I can use the phone with the car now, even if I had to manually program every number in by hand :/

Works flawlessly on my 2010 Audi A6. Even my call history (missed, placed and received) comes through along with my entire phonebook. Got to love those Germans!

I did notice the phone's manual says the car must support Stereo Bluetooth. I'm having trouble pairing with the Bose system in my Mazda, but I guess I'll keep trying.

When you say "rebooting" the phone, do you just mean powering down, and then turning it back on?
