Evo + Infiniti G37 = Sadness

OK guys, just to summarize everything. First correction - major redesign of Infiniti was in 07 not in 08. I have 07G35X fully loaded LOL. Second, regardless of which BT file transfer program you use it WILL NOT transfer contacts to Infiniti with its present BT firmware. Third, the latest redesign of Infiniti comes in the form of new M ' 11 equipped with stereo BT streaming. Maybe in this config it will be fully compatible with EVO.

On the serious note: downloaded phone book from your phone IS NOT OPERATIONAL while driving on Infniti G 07, 08, 09 and possibly 10. Your voice control will only operate manually installed phone book with assigned voice tags... Therefore, you really doesn't lose much...

I have an 08 Accord and have no problem connecting with Bluetooth. However, I initially had the same issue where it would initially connect, and then when I would place a call or receive one, it would disconnect. After I paired the phone, I did NOT check the auto launch option under the dock setting. That solved my problem. Try it. I hope it helps.

My 08 ford f150 with sync paired up perfectly in one attempt, phonebook and everything. Ford sync ftw!

And my Evo can transfer files back and forth from my Linux laptop. But that has NOTHING to do with this thread, now does it?

Well I have been thinking about this for a while. crxssi... I got to the same place as you. Using the bluetooth file transfer app, I got them to connect, I even got the car to initiate the transfer but then failed. I suspect that the file is NOT the phonebook file format the car is expecting. There must be another format. I sent an email to Infiniti to try and figure out what format it is expecting. If I get nothing, I will try Clarion, who I believes make the system.

If I get answer, I will try and make a phonebook of that format and transfer it. If not, I will try making all sorts of formats and transfer them.

BTW... Infiniti is made in Japan... Ford is made in Mexico... if you want to drive American, drive a Honda or a Toyota. Country of company has nothing to do with the quality of the car... and better yet... has nothing to do with this thread.

I had not tried it with 2.2, so I tried again a few days ago and it is acting exactly the same... no change at all.

Quite possible, but it seems strange- wouldn't there be some very hard standard for such a file? Otherwise, how could any head unit designer hope to communicate with ANY phone. Yet, Android phones transfer phonebooks to all kinds of other cars. And all kinds of other phones (like my Palm Pre) transfer to the Infiniti just fine.

Clarion did make the head unit in my previous car- a Maxima. Seems logical they might have made for Infiniti too. Good luck- I usually find trying to contact anyone in big companies for tech info to be difficult. If you do learn something, please share :)

So this morning I got an update to Bluetooth File Transfer on my Evo. I figured, just for grins, I would try and transfer my phonebook and see if it would work this time.... and guess what? It did!

So it seems that the update to BFT seems to format the phonebook file in such a way that is friendly with the Clarion system. It transferred 128 contacts to my 2008 Infiniti in a few secs.

So crxssi... if you can, try to get the latest app on your phone and see if it magically works now as it did for me.

It worked!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

In 3 or 4 seconds, all my contacts transferred flawlessly to my 2009 G37S! For those monitoring this thread- no version of Bluetooth File Transfer prior to 3.50 will work, but 3.50 does seem to be the solution. Thanks so much for pointing it out- yes, it is magic.

Still unfortunate that we have to use a 3rd party app to transfer the contacts, but I am very glad there is a solution :) I will post on the Infiniti forums, also.

Yeah... I had to use a 3rd party app on my windows mobile phone too. BTW, Infiniti did get back to me with a really dumb generic answer. I hate bad customer support.

worked for me as well with BT file transfer update. Interesting observation that i didn't even have to punch 1234 code required by Infiniti on my EVO prior the transfer. :)

Yeah, I *hate* those kind of stupid canned replies. Then it is even more insulting when companies contact you later asking for feedback. Of course, I tell them the truth.

At least they got back with you, which is more than I can say for SOME companies I have had to deal with.

What I *did* do was go straight to the Bluetooth File Transfer authors and sent them a long, glowing thank you Email. And then rated the program high on Market and wrote a review. It is a free app, it was the least I could do.

It didn't require I use the "1234", either. I did for the original pairing, but not for the file transfer.

We now have a 2010 g37 and it downloaded all the contacts from the EVO atomatically when it paired up. No 3rd party app needed. The voice control to find contacts with the car stinks and to manually search the hundreds of contacts within the cars database is just as horrible. We just have the phone mounted with a universal dock on the passenger vent and use the large evo screen to grab contacts quickly. The bluetooth seems to be working fine.

Interesting- I wouldn't think it would just transfer contacts when pairing, without specifically asking. Seems a bit intrusive to me.

I am not terribly pleased with scrolling through 40+ contacts either. Fortunately, I rarely call people while driving (because I am driving). Also, those few I do call, I set those up in the "local" phonebook, with voice tags. Those do work fine. The rest I have just in case. It would be nice if there were a way to use the Evo's voice recog through the Infiniti's bluetooth, however.

Yeah it has all my contacts loaded which it did automatically when It initially paired. I believe I saw this in the owners manual as well. I wish it did not so I could enter just the few important #s I would need quickly then easily scroll those few #s. I went to the dealership and they said the older models did this and mine is newer and syncs all the contacts sooooo he could not figure out a way. I do not feel that he knew for sure so I take it for what it is.

I need to sit and spend some time with it but I do not remember a local phone book option. That would be nice. What I did is put the important #s as favorites on the evo. When I get in the car I just put the phone in car mode and set the evo in the dock on the vent. I can easily access those favorites nice and fast. The evo phone dialer is there as well so this gives me faster touch screen access to my phone book if I need it. I passed on getting navigation with this car since the evo is sitting with its fat screen just waiting to give me directions if I need it. Finding a place with the phone on google and being able to grab the address and instantly get directions to that place blows the stock navigation away. I love this phone oh and the car is not so bad either.;)

Hello, I am new to this thread but have a marked interest in the topic. I currently have a new (within the 30 day satisfaction guarantee period) Droid Incredible, which is generally love.

Problem is, it hate my 2010 G37s' bluetooth, much like many of you Evo owners have reported. That said, it seems some OTA update may have corrected the issue since it was originally reported. Are all of you Infiniti owners now successfully using your Evo's in your cars with the handsfree profile?

If so, I may return my incredible and switch to the evo (and sprint).

Along those lines (and slightly off topic, please forgive me) - spring vs verizon? Opionions? I just left AT&T to come to Verizon and this phone and so far, the voice quality has not been impressive in comparison. Then again I had a blackberry which is known to have awesome voice quality.

Thanks everyone!!

The G37 bluetooth is a bit shotty sounding- certainly not as nice as I would like. Seems to be "packety", yet I think that might be normal for this car. It sounds the same as when I was using a Palm Pre. But it does work. The only issue is that sometimes when I start the car, it pairs immediately, then disconnects, then repairs again a few seconds later. Other times, it pairs immediately and stays paired. I never seem to "lose" the connection during travel, though.

I can't compare with Blackberry, since I have never used one. I have been very, very pleased with the Evo. It is a wonderful device. Sprint is fine- their voice coverage area is identical to Verizon (they use each other's towers), as is the 1x data. The 3G coverage of Sprint is not as wide as Verizon, but it is just as fast (and seems to cover every where *I* go). I do not live in a 4G area, so I can't comment on that... other than Sprint has a huge head start on 4G, and the 4G speed has the same potential as what Verizon will be rolling out; although I think Verizon's 4G might have more promise/longevity and their rollout might match Sprint's very quickly and then surpass it. I guess we wait and see.

Sprint has lower prices (especially on higher end plans) and more perks (sooner upgrades, cell-to-any-cell is free minutes, lesser caps, etc). I have been with Sprint for 12 years or something. There was a time when Sprint's customer service was going down the tubes, but they bounced back and I have been impressed. My employer also gives me the ability to have a huge Sprint discount, further lowering their already lower cost.

Sounds like it's much better than what I have to deal with on the incredible. Have you tried any other phone with your car's bluetooth? My BT setup with my blackberry in this same car was loud and very clear.

How is voice quality on the Evo just being used as a handheld phone?

Yeah, I get the discount from verizon too and it's the same amount. Sprint will be about the same pound for pound in cost. My concern switchign to sprint is call quality, 3g availability, but then 4g may overcome that concern. I use my phone in the morning with my latop for tethered connectivity so consistency is important.

thanks!

sadly I dont have a BT car, but my EVO paired very well with my Jawbone Icon earbud and I've had excellent call quality.

I switched from a BB and noticed no difference in the call quality. I was with sprint and have been with Sprint for 11 years.

Have you checked the sprint coverage maps for your area? If you're in a major metro area, you shouldn't have issues.

The Evo sounds fine holding the handset. Using it with a Motorola bluetooth headset, it is a bit digitally at times. It is much worse when used in the G37. Not unusable, but not pleasant either. I have only used the Pre and the Evo.
