Evo + Infiniti G37 = Sadness

I did notice the phone's manual says the car must support Stereo Bluetooth.

I don't think it would have to support stereo to transfer a phonebook, but I suppose anything is possible :)

When you say "rebooting" the phone, do you just mean powering down, and then turning it back on?

Yes. I had the tricorder app accidentally start playing an annoying background sound and nothing would stop it, not even killing the app! I finally resorted to a reboot. Wow- the Evo boots a lot faster than the Pre :)

i have 2007 G35x. knowing that my Pre had realy bad history with Infiniti BT, before i bought the phone, i took a demo unit from the store, paired it with my car and placed a call. When i saw it working perfectly i was sold :)

And yes, that is correct, EVO has no option to transfer hone book to Infiniti cars. in Pre it was an option in contacts - send all to car kit but it showed up after software upgrade.

For EVO I even downloaded BT transfer app from the market but it still fails as it states that car has no OBEX services. its inconvenient, but the call quality is superb and according to my friends and family, better than it was with Pre.

I did the same thing and got the exact same (failed) results. I hope that Froyo will have a way of doing it. Like you, I find that the sound quality is better than the Pre over the car. Thanks for the information.

I've got a 2008 Infiniti G37S, and my EVO bluetooth connection is perfect. It connects seconds after I start my car, and it never fades. No switching from car speaker to phone or anything like that. Coming from an "upgraded" 2.1 Hero with ****ty bluetooth connecivity, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's definitely solid in my experience. Sorry you're having bad luck man, but I'm not so sure it's an Infiniti thing.....

Well, except for my initial flukey issues, it is working fine, as are the other two (now three, so 4 total) reports of Infiniti + EVO. EXCEPT for the inability to transfer the phonebook, which you didn't mention, and I assume you were not able to either.

evo pairs better than palm pre with my 07 G35. Before, with my pre, when i answered a call it would connect, then would disconnect, then connect again after 10-15 seconds. With the Evo it connects without any drops

I did notice the phone's manual says the car must support Stereo Bluetooth. I'm having trouble pairing with the Bose system in my Mazda, but I guess I'll keep trying.

Well, the morning after I wrote this I went out and tried again, and it paired right away, and connected on the second try. Since then, it's been perfect.

I guess it just wasn't the right phase of the moon, or there were too many sunspots, or I didn't grimace just right the first 10 times I tried. :p

Glad to hear this isn't a problem. I think I'm finally going to break down and buy a G coupe.

I actually preferred the exterior on the 370Z, but with no back seat it's not workable. The new G design looks much improved and the interior is nice, so I'm going to pounce at the end of the year when I can brutalize them on price.

i love how people are SOOOO quick to blame the phone... this thread should contain one post.

"i figured out what i was doing wrong to pair my evo to my 370z" and "it won't transfer my phonebook"

"i figured out what i was doing wrong to pair my evo to my 370z" and "it won't transfer my phonebook"

1) The thread was not about the 370z, it was about the G37S. Although they probably use identical electronics, so posts about about the 370Z would be relevant.

2) When a car apparently works fine with other phones and not the Evo, there is really no way to tell whether it is the phone or the car or just that combination. That is the purpose of a forum- to share information, help each other, solve problems, etc.

3) I can't speak for others, but in my posts, I never blamed just the phone. In fact, if you read the original post, I was leaning towards the car.

4) The purpose of the thread is not and was not to "blame" the phone, it was to discover if anyone else has the same era car and and Evo to see what experiences they are having so I could work towards a solution.

5) There was NEVER a problem with pairing the Evo with the G37 (or other Infinitis), it was what was happening after the pairing. I was never doing anything "wrong".

6) I have confirmation that other people are also unable to transfer the phone book to any similar Infinini or Nissan. NOBODY has said they have been able to actually transfer the phone book, so that problem is not resolved.

7) If you want to complain about postings in the thread, it should be about cars that are nothing like the G37, such as the Pioneer in-dash, an Audi (x2), an Escape, an MKX, an Accord, a Mazda, and a Mini.

It has been a few days since the Evo started working in the G37. I wanted to report that I have used it several times without incident (of course, this is a small sample size). It has always connected immediately, I have not lost a call, and the sound quality is good. Although, I did notice twice that the "disconnected" and "connected" message would sometimes pop up on the car screen a few min after the car was started. Why it would lose the connection, I have no idea (never did that with the Pre) but it always came back immediately, and doesn't always happen. Also still have not found a way to transfer contacts. I hope something arrives with Froyo that will help, since it is very unlikely that Infiniti will release any type of updates (It has been a year and nothing).

Someone on the myg37.com forum reported he had success today uploading his phonebook to his 2010 G37, but that he had to do it a few times to make it work. Interesting timing, since there was an update to the Android "Bluetooth File Transfer" program today. So I updated the Evo and tried the procedure in my 2009 G37 again. It got further this time than last. On the car I choose to download phonebook, then in the app I tell it to send contacts, select all, send, choose the car, and the two actually start talking to each other (I see a transfer progress dialog on both). However, it aborts within one second- the phone saying transfer successful and the car saying "transfer failed". No contacts are transfered. So I tried dozens of permutations- starting the phone first, car first, same time, different locations throughout the interior, just one contact, many contacts, wiping the cache, etc. It simply will not work. But looks like I am getting closer. Otherwise, things are working well.

I continue to use the EVO via bluetooth in my '08 G37 with no issues. But I haven't tried uploading/downloading my phonebook - I've just added my most frequent contacts manually with the voice roecognition for each.

On a side note, I feel EXTREMELY fortunate to be owners of both. It's funny though, that due to such low supply and extreme demand, I may be more proud of my EVO than my Infiniti G37, ha!

I have an 08 G37s coupe and my evo works flawlessly with it.

My last htc phone would connect fine but all calls would be garbled or have terrible echo.. glad that isn't the case with this one.

Please define "flawless". I define eight things it must do to be flawless:

1) Pair with no problems
2) Be able to connect quickly and stay connected the entire time both are on
3) Be able to take and place calls from the car
4) Incoming calls ring the car
5) Sound and mic are transfered to the car during a call
6) Sound quality in both directions is excellent with no pops, echoes, or static
7) Car can hang up the phone when done
8) Be able to upload the phonebook from the phone to the car

On my G37/Evo combo: #1 was never a problem. #2 had an occasional loss, but seems to have gone away since my last phone reboot. #3, #4, #5, #6, and #7 seem to be fine (although #5 was a problem before the first Evo update). #8 at the moment seems impossible on mine.

Excellent work on the criteria! I can confirm I've done all but #8. I'll try that next time I take that car out. Without doing anything (leaving the phone in my pocket) it connects almost instantly after starting the car and stays connected for the duration of the trip.

The sound is not as crisp on the other end as my wife's '10 pilot and iPhone 3g, but it is very close.

I am in the same boat with phonebook transfers from my Evo. What bluetooth transfer programs have you tried? Which ones have had some level of success?

My 08 ford f150 with sync paired up perfectly in one attempt, phonebook and everything. Ford sync ftw!
