EVO keeps rebooting

update: just got my new evo, and guess what, it's a big piece of refurb turd. Screen seems cheaper, has knicks on it, rear camera part that sticks out had glue on it, liquid between screen.... screen seems like it's off a samsung instinct or palm centro if anyone could remember those.

top part of the phone has a gap near stereo jack, took battery cover off, looks like someone broke the screw inside because they tightened the phone too tight.

very disappointed....

and to top it off while i was activating, people in back ground were cussing and having a party, girl had to constantly put me on hold. or mute her mic, I waited so long i forgot to mention it at end of call, I will be calling back...

they said they couldn't offer me a new one only a refurb, unless i pay full price.

You have 15 days to return you original phone back to Sprint without being charged for it. When I got my replacement, I asked what to do if I was unhappy with the one they sent. CS told me to call them and tell them there were problems with the replacement, and to send that one back. They would then send me another replacement phone.

Fortunately, the replacement I received was fine. Sorry about your problem. I would recommend calling Sprint and explaining the situation, and they hopefully will send you another replacement phone.

Local Sprint repair store just ordered me a phone as a result of this issue. Problem was sporadic at first, but over the last week has become more frequent, and finally got to a point last night where it was going into a repeat reboot cycle that pulling the battery wouldn't solve. Sprint rep did a hard reset, but problem returned within 5 minutes of the phone being up and running and as I type it's back to being stuck in a reboot cycle. Internet use if the only constant that I can peg, but on the way home it launched into the reboot cycle without me touching anything.

mine reboots about once a day. It appears that there are two triggers (so far as I have noticed), when disconnecting from a bluetooth device, and when disconnecting from the charger. This device has been in service 12 days and has not been rooted, with about 5 downloaded apps.

Same here. Its been getting worse and worse by the day since installing angry birds app 2 weeks ago. Personally im not rooted. I wonder if rooting the phone will fix this issue? idk just a thought? I will try and leave feedback later. If all else fails im calling sprint.

Also... my computer has quit recognizing my evo. Anyone else having this problem along with the reboots?

same problem

Things started going downhill with Angry Birds, but it worked for about a week. I tried to install AOL IM and that's when the rebooting started. They sent me a replacement and the microphone doesn't work. Waiting on the third phone.

i've been getting reboots if i use the flashlight function for switch pro widget. the built in flashlight app is fine.

it actually powers off AFTER i disable the flashlight, that's the weird part. could just be bad coding?

it also reboots if i use the create video or start video chat buttons in qik. tried clearing data, uninstalling the update and reapplying, as well as downloading the market version. always leads to a reboot.

kind of weird since that's an advertised app for the evo.

honestly coming from the hero, none of this bothers me all that much, just wondering if any of you having reboots are getting it for the same reasons as me as well as your random reboots.

Disconnecting from a bluetooth device rebooted my Evo as well! I removed Aedvanced Task Killer and the reboot issue was resolved.

Just an update, i uninstalled advanced task killer and rooted my phone and im still having problems. Phone still gets hot during medium-heavy use and goes into reboot loop mode again. Next is a Hard Reset and im not looking forward to it...

All of my reboots seem to be heat related. Running either Sprint Hotspot or Wireless tether while charging makes the phone heat up significantly and then the reboots start. I have been getting around this by letting my phone sit on an ice pack while running this way. It's ridiculous - there are no other changes to the apps I run, but the reboots stop when the temperature stays below about 30c.

I've never installed a task killer, and I've seen this consistently with AC-ROM 2.5-2.8, with the stock kernel as well as the latest NetArchy 4.1.9 kernel. I have also done multiple clear caches/clear Davlik/clear battery info.
I also don't see any overheating issues when the phone is charging without Hotspot/Tether running.

Maybe some of the kernel experts can look at why the hotspot/tethering stuff is putting such a strain on the battery.

Same problem continious re-boot.... can even get to the phone to check anything or do a hard reset....this is like re-living the Palm Pre... DAMN.. getting to think that while sprint phone are "cool" their life span is less than 2 months.... will be heading to Sprint tomorrow.

My issue was text messages... It started doing it over and over until I set the limit to 180 txt per contact... When it started rebooting it reached over 1200 in 4 contacts with pictures and videos...

Mine just did it this morning, I went to link from peep. Next thing I know its rebooting. It's the only time so far.

Same problem think i was up to 30+ loops of re-boots.... took it to Sprint they did a hard re-set since there was no way for me to get to the phone as it was in a constant re-boot.....said it was something with the SoftWare.. so far working good... but you have a year warrently on the "guts" of the phone so if it continues i will be asking for a new one.....but so far so good !!

Ever since the most recent update my EVO keeps rebooting. Sometimes several times a day. Right now it was sitting on my desk and started rebooting. It is in a loop. It has rebooted itself about 15 times so far and will not stop.

I've taken the battery out and it stopped---for a few minutes and then started again.

Before the recent update it was perfectly fine.

install a different rom?

Ok so im stock and rooted. if software really is the issue can i install a rom and see if it fixes it? if it doesnt fix, then its a hardware problem right? any ideas?

evo keeps rebooting?? heres the solution!!

All of us evo users will probably have this problem.
This happened to me a week after i rooted my evo it just shut off. As soon as i turned it back on it kept rebooting. I called Sprint but they're obviously really stupid when it comes to phones and said its a phone malfunction, which it is but they so stupid they didnt couldnt tell me how to fix it lol.
though they are sending me a replacement today i just couldnt wait cause my phone started acting up on the weekend.
anyway me being the beast that i am i decided to try and figure this out on my own.
its pretty easy.

steps:
1. take out the battery
2. place battery back in , once inside place your hand on the volume down key (hold it down) AND the power button together.. until you get a list.
4.go down to the option to wipe your phone
5. wipe your phone clean ..factory reset.
:)
though u may lose all your apps your phone should now work, and lets hope you were smart enough to save your contacts through gmail or email throughout your time using this device. if not you wont be able to sync your contacts back.
hope this forum helped. Cause i came here to figure it out once my phone messed up and these other fools just tell you to reboot your phone. HOW THE HELL YOU SUPPOSE TO KNOW HOW TO DO THAT WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS right??? lol anyway hope this helped.. good day!

I did that a couple times and the phone keep doing the same thing. It doesn't restart every minute but it still does it at least 3 times a day.

I had the same problem. I tried everything, including several hard resets. I called Sprint and they sent me a replacement phone. Now I have not had any reboots since the replacement arrived. I would call Sprint and ask about a replacement.

I worked on it for about three weeks to try and figure it out. I did a hard reset and did not download a single app, and still had reboots. Pulling the battery sometimes stopped it, and sometimes it would continue to reboot even after a battery pull.

Call Sprint... just my two cents.
did you literally just call sprint and let them know your problem and they went ahead with a replacement and you sending your back to them or what? i would want to transfer all my stuff but it seems to be a hassle

This happens to me constantly. For me its an overheating issue. When the phone gets near or above 100F it just shuts off. Unfortunately in these summer months when the ambient temp is 90F it doesn't take much for the phone to get stuck restarting.

Sadly the phone is pretty much useless now, any taxing processes like netflix force the phone to restart. Looks like I might have to switch to the 3D, this time I think I'll invest in the warranty though.

Well, I'm back here after having my Evo replaced.

My original Evo started rebooting randomly, at first maybe once a week, then a few times a week, then a few times a day. It became unusable and I took it to a Sprint Repair Center (the other places probably won't be able to help you). I am guessing that the problems are with the hardware and that this is something Sprint/HTC are well aware of, because they guy told me that they run some test. I got a replacement the next day (this was in April).

Now it has started again with the new Evo. I'm still in the "resetting once a week" mode, but I'm wondering if this is going to get worse like it did on the last phone, and if so, what I can do about it.
