EVO Restarting on its own - a LOT...

Dallen - I have a version of Swype as well. I will try uninstalling it, and see if that helps my problem. Perhaps it is simply a virus.

I have run a couple different anti-virus apps, and found nothing with either one. I will try removing Swype and see what happens.

Mine started doing this as week ago, uninstalled fennic, seems to have solved the problem.

My beloved EVO started restarting on me I did a hard reset with no apps on it and still does it. I noticed that the battery or the phone gets really warm when this happens - it's freaking driving me insane!!! I don't want to get a dirty refurb - I refused a replacement battery cause it wasn't red lol (I know I know I'm a d*ck) but it just ruins the whole look of the phone for me. Come on HTC & Sprint what's up with the battery color that was one of your selling points. Anyway I need HTC & Sprint to put their heads together on this cause I LOVE MY PHONE but I'll be damn if it reboots on me while on an important call or using the navigation!!!!!

I have had two or three random reboots, and they weren't related to any of the apps I've seen mentioned here.

Mine all happened when I was using Google Maps or Google Navigation. Went to enable the GPS and BAM, reset.

Keeping an eye on it...

Matt

Up until now I've had a perfect launch day phone. Absolutely no problems whatsoever and as of a few days ago my phone, too, has been restarting. Once while I was browsing Fandango for movies and then again today when I was trying to turn on GPS to use Sprint Navi. Is there a very very common app that many of us have that just had an update and is throwing our phones all haywire?

Same thing has been happening to me.went to sprint store, replacement should be here today,so annonyin it would happen at of no where..I love this phone but right now not very happy wit it..

I tried removing the copy of Swype that I had, then did a hard reset. Still rebooting. It happens when I use GPS (Google Nav, Sprint Nav), when I use Fring, Qik, when I am on Facebook, etc.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why this is happening. I cannot seem to trace it to one app. It also did not happen before 2.2, but it didn't happen right away after upgrading to 2.2.

I am having heat issues with the battery as well, but lately, the heat from the phone/battery doesn't seem to be noticeable when it reboots.

I am with Rmoise, as I like my phone, and bought it on launch day brand new, and really don't want a refurb as a replacement phone. I have a hard time believing that it is a hardware issue. If it was, wouldn't we all have been having these issues from day one?

Everything I have read on AC, as well as other forums (HTC, Sprint, etc.) show that this issue has really only been plaguing people for the last couple weeks. I contacted Sprint, and they recommended I bring it in for a replacement phone. I am just afraid that a replacement phone will have the same issues, and I don't want a refurb. For the money I spent, I want the phone I bought to work properly.

I know I am ranting, but this is beginning to really tick me off, and I am not finding any answers.

EDIT: After a hard reset, I started loading apps back on my phone, and am now waiting for the reset to finish. THIS SUCKS!

@drjb74 I've narrow it down to the battery is faulty or defect on the screen. Reason I say this I notice the bottom right hand side the screen lifts up just a tad bit. The only reason I notice this was when using the phone in the dark I can see light coming thru. What is everyone thoughts on this? I'm hoping its a stinking app that's causing this issue like Facebook lol. Let's compare what apps you think might be the culprit.

List of questionable apps
On the fly backup
Lookout
K-9 mail
Flashplayer (hmmm)

I'm leaning on the battery cause when this happens my phone gets very warm

Rmoise - The only app of those I have is flashplayer. I have been wondering if it is the battery as well, due to the heat issues. I noticed this morning when I had the GPS on, it was working, and showed that it was charging as well. When it rebooted, it showed that the battery was fully charged. Could be coincidence, but just a thought. Perhaps I will try uninstalling the flashplayer update and see what happens.

Lately, my phone has not been noticeably warm when it reboots, but I have definitely had that concern.

i will update later in regards to removing the flash player update.

EDIT: Removed Flash Player 10.1, ran Google Nav at my desk in my office, while charging, phone just rebooted. Phone now says battery fully charged again. I think I will go to the Sprint Store this weekend, and see about getting a replacement battery. Don't these Li-Ion batteries have a chip or something in them?

My thoughts exactly. Since my phone is perfect in every other way, no light leakage, etc, I don't want to get it replaced with a refurb that could possibly have all of those problems. And plus, I don't think it's hardware either. For the same reason's you said, it only started happening within the last week or so and it didn't do it before 2.2 and it didn't start until almost 2 months after 2.2. But then again..maybe it IS the battery. Anyone with replacement batteries having this issue? All of those having this issue are you still using the stock battery that came with??

On that same thought, are there people who are rooted and still having this problem? I am on the stock ROM.

I went to the corporate headquarters and sprint techs told me to come back when the issue happens again WTF ARE THEY SERIOUS? Anyway to make a long story short they ordered me a NEW one and will be in Monday. I'll definetly will make sure its new before I leave the store boyeee!

Rmoise - please post when you get your new phone. I am curious if you will continue to have the same problems on the new one.

And defininitely make sure it is a new phone. Check the SD card that come with it. I have heard stories of people getting a "new" phone, and then they find stuff saved to the SD card, which obviously shows the phone isn't new.

There is also a way to check the minutes used on the actual phone. I think it is a dial code, but I don't remember what that code is exactly.

Not sure if this will help anybody on here, but I thought it relavent.

I have had this problem randomly since launch. During the first week, it would do it 3 or 4x at once, then be fine for a day or so, and then start up again (literally). I did a hard reset way back then, and since it has only happened sparingly. It actually happened the other night for the first time in weeks, I only noticed becuase the wicked loud boot noise woke me up. It hasn't happened since then, but i've just written it off as one of the 'bugs' with this phone.

It seems, that when it goes into a loop of rebooting, if i turn it off myself, and turn it back on its good to go. It happens less and less often as time goes on. So, I'm not entirely sure everyone with this problem needs a new phone. But maybe I needed a new phone, and have learned to live with it, like i said it only happens once every few weeks now.

But I thought this important becuase one of the above posts mentions it as a new issue. It definatly is not a new/recent issue.

I have to ask.. But are you guys using a Task Killer? If you are ditch it and reboot. Problems will almost definitely go away. If you don't then I dunno

I was having the same problem recently and I ended up uninstalling the most recent update of Flash (10.1.92.10) and went back to 10.1.72.7. I haven't had a restart since. Not sure if they are connected or not, but it certainly fixed my problem.

I was wondering the same thing.
Damn ATK causes a ton of problems, especially on Froyo!!

my Evo had been doing this off and on since launch... like everyone else I didnt want to have a refurb... I kept calling sprint and got the best tech I had ever talked to and we did everything... hard reset MSL reset nothing worked... she told me it would be luck of the draw whether mine was new or not. it is a refurb but man it is a different world. It is like having a different phone. I honestly hadnt experienced the Evo. So for me it was like this. as soon as I played with the new Evo for 5 minutes I realized something had been wrong with my Evo from jump I am glad I got the refirb. just hoping to give some hope to peeps who my be skeptical about chancing getting a refurb.

It is almost like I had aa bad processor in my first Evo. I am a newb... does anyone think that is possible? like i said i realized geting this new Evo that mine had been a lemon since activation. there is things this one does I had never expereinced. way way faster
