EVO Restarting on its own - a LOT...

I have to ask.. But are you guys using a Task Killer? If you are ditch it and reboot. Problems will almost definitely go away. If you don't then I dunno

I am not using a task killer. I tried it for a few days, but it did not seem to help anything, so I got rid of it.

I went into the Sprint Store this weekend, and was simply frustrated with the "service." I consider myself an educated person, and as such, have been on the web and many forums, trying to find a way to solve my issue, without involving Sprint. I like my phone, and do not have any issues with trying to solve my own problems. I consider CS as a last resort for most issues.

That being said, I find it frustrating to go to a Sprint store, and realize that I know 100X more about my phone, Andrioid OS, etc., than the person who is paid to help me. I also understand that they are trained to deal with very small problems, and to sell phones and plans, but it still annoys me. When I explained my situation, their first questions was, "Have you taken out the battery?" Really, gee, I never would have thought about that (I thought sarcastically).

I like Sprint, and have no desire to switch to another phone, nor another carrier, but I wish that these people would be trained a little more on issues with phones, especially a "flagship" device like the EVO.

I know I am ranting, but I have found so much more help, advice, thoughts on AC than I have ever gotten in a Sprint store. They sat there and pushed the buttons on the phone, and then said, "You should bring it back when we have a tech in the store. They usually know more about issues than we do." I am just tired of dealing with ignorant people.

Thanks for letting me vent. Now, back to my resetting issue...

Ha, you'll get the same service everywehre. These people are sales people first and foremost with limited problem solving knowledge.

If its resetting why not just swap the device?

That is my next step, but call me obsessive, I don't want a refurbed phone. I have heard a lot of horror stories about people getting refurbs that are worse than the original. I bought mine on launch day, and it works (worked) perfectly until this reboot problem.

I guess I am just frustrated by this. I turned the GPS off this weekend, and never had a reboot. When I left to go to the Sprint store yesterday, I turned on the GPS as I drove, and started Google Nav. During a 20 minute drive, it rebooted three times.

I think I am getting annoyed by the problem, and will probably break down and try and get a replacement. I am also concerned that a replacement will not fix the problem, and then I am left with someone else used phone, that was obviously sent back for some other problem.

I have just done a factory reset on my phone, and did NOT install the upgrade for Google Maps. I have had the GPS on and Google Nav running for about an hour, and have not had a reset yet. Before, I would reset after about ten minutes of navigation.

Does anyone else think this problem is related to GPS/Google Maps?

I will keep trying and see what happens.

EDIT - That did not work. It is still randomly rebooting. I broke down and called Sprint, and they are sending me a replacement. I will definitely look it over before I switch. Crossing my fingers that the replacement is fine, and this makes the rebooting issue go away. We'll see.

Haha I feel you on this one - I had to inform the tech that I was working with I'm a advance user and YES I did remove my battery and YES I did a hardware reset - JUST GIVE A NEW PHONE MAN!! For the other person that asks about ATK and if phone was rooted no to both questions. I did a hardware reset and didn't put no apps or did any kind of updates and it still rebooted on me. People that are having this issue - go into a sprint store and get a new or refurb phone. I'm still waiting for the call today to let me know that it came in today.

Are you still on the old phone? I tried the code thing and had no success either.

I've tried:
Battery Pull
Hard Reset
MSL Code/GPS Clearing
Removed all apps
No task killers
Installing task killer
Unchecking "Always on Mobile Data" and rechecking
Unchecking GPS location, and then re-run setup
Reformatting SD card

I think thats everything. Don't know what else. Waiting on replacement phone now.

I still on the old phone still waiting for sprint to text me and tell me that my phone came in. I just did the MSL code and enable bluetooth/gps and streaming youtube and REBOOT again!! I'll give sprint until 5pm central time to call me or I'm going there with the wife beater on and some timberland boots!!

I just ordered my replacement this afternoon. They are shipping mine to my house. Good luck!

I'll be interested to see how it works in comparison to your current phone.

Well got my replacement and haven't gotten a reboot yet. All my apps are back on but it seems that their a global issue with market place right now. For a second I thought it was my replacement phone. I'll update you all tomorrow after I conduct some stress test. My wife just called me a loser for still being on this phone so late lol. I so love my phone (I mean wife wink wink)

I feel you. I just got my wife an EPIC, so she can't give me any grief anymore. I think she is on her's more than I am on mine. I am glad your replacement seems to be working. Have you used GPS and Google Nav yet?

I've been on god and Helena and haven't seen a reboot yet. I keeping my toes crossed and will have everything on and see what happens tonight but it seems like I had a bad phone from the start.

So this is happening to my evo 4g shift and after almost every app it keeps mini restarting idk how to fix went to the mall where they had one tech in there and he said i had to keep shutting down apps makes no sense there are not that many apps running. Came home and it started again. Going to call tech tomorow and if I have to go to another store this is ridiculous This all began for me after the 2.3 update.
