Evo Screen Water Damage. What should I do?

I believe I am the first to have major issues. this is unreal, so this is what my phone looks like when booted, its been like this the past 48 hours even after sitting in rice and silica gels.

Is this permanently damaged or am I just going to have to wait for the water to dry out? What do you think I should do? Return it, my battery and indicator stickers are still pretty clean. Bought this at radio shack, is it worth trying to get a exchange? Please help me out thanks!

Did you buy insurance coverage? If you didn't may I suggest buying it now and making a claim in a few weeks. I do think you are allowed 30 days to buy the coverage. The phone might dry out just fine leave the battery out and all the covers off for a few more days.

Definitely remove the battery immediately, put the phone in a container of rice and allow to sit in a dry place for the next 24 hours. Try to get as much of the moisture out first.

Do you have the Equipment plan from sprint? if you do you may try exchanging it there (possible deductible). I doubt radio shack will do much, but it worth a shot.

Ah thanks, ill continue to put it in rice. Radio Shack said they wont be able to exchange until the next shipment.

No I dont have insurance, which one should I get? How would this coverage help and how much would it be? Thanks for the help

My phone just has those marks on screen, mainly due to water stuck between the glass and screen. I hope that dries up and clears up soon. Otherwise the phone is in working order other than distorted screen.

+1 To leaving it in rice for at least 72 HOURS. (I did that after my BB taking a swim in the pool, and everything was back to normal except for the liquid indicator.)

The distorted screen is frightening especially on a smartphone, but it will most likely go away using that rice trick.

Sorry, but I fail to see how anyone in their right mind would exchange this phone for a new one. Maybe I'm missing something and you didn't immerse the phone in water. In that case, this is a severely defective phone.

On the other hand, it is completely unethical to try and return the phone in this condition if it wasn't like this to begin with. Try the rice, get TEP (since you're within 30 days) and pay the deductible.

Edit: I had similar damage to my blackberry - someone else knocked it out of my hand into my pint of beer. The screen never was the same. It worked, but it had some weird reflective stuff going on.

First of all what happened? Why? Because a lot of people are putting on screen protectors and realizing that water got into their screen.. if this is what happened, please let other people know. This isn't a one way street, we all like to share info, not only to help you out, but to help others.
Second.. I would def try and get a replacement asap. This most likely will not go away and if it looks like it did, it may come back to haunt you another day.

Depends on how the liquid got under the screen. I've seen at least a dozen reports of people putting screen protectors on and having this issue. The screen should be sealed properly, thus adding the minor amount of solution to put a screen protector on shouldn't leak into the screen, but this has happened.. So in that case, I believe he has every right to return the phone.

How about blasting the company that instructed you on how to install the screen protector? Or, taking responsibility for doing it wrong (if you did)? The retailer, Sprint or HTC shouldn't bear responsibility for it. Insurance (unless explicitly excluded) or your wallet should take the hit. Sorry for the brutal truth.

This happened too my phone the night that i bought it. after i put a screen protecter on it it got dark and as the night progressed it got worse. It took two day for it to get fixed but i freaked out and showed a sprint rep. what i did and what happened and they ordered me a new one. the screen protecter that i bought was from a company called zag. there great but now i'm a little scared to put on a new on. it requires you to mist a little bit of water on the screen before you place it on the screen. oh and i have used this product many times with other devices and i've never seen anything like this.

Personally I think if water can get between the glass and screen (or however it is layered) that easily is a defective manufacture process. I definitely soaked my Zagg Invisible Shield and didn't have any problems afterwards. I was mopping it up with a paper towel as I squeegeed but there was liquid running out every direction.

xorbe .. just came back to say the same thing. After thinking more about it ... I agree. HTC does have some responsibility here. If water gets under the glass THAT easily, they should fix it, period.

I was headed for the phantomskinz until this popped up. Now I'm in wait and see mode.

I have a Zagg protector on my screen and didn't have this problem. I "misted" it pretty good with water to....That sucks! I'd be pissed!

The same thing happened to my Evo. So do you guys think that if I took it to the Sprint store (even though I bought it from Best Buy), they would give me a new one? Or should I take it to Best Buy?
