Evo vs Epic

My honest opinion of the Epic is that it is a great complimentary phone to the EVO. It gives people who want a large vibrant screen mixed with a physical keyboard a reason to try Android (Probably Blackberry users) but was never meant to replace the EVO as the "Flagship" device at Sprint....

And that's a wrap.

okay so my upgrade isnt till january but i really want to know which is better
i really like the evo but the epic is nice because of the keyboard
so i want peoples opinion on the Evo on what the pros are about it
what the cons are about it
what the final thoughts about it and everything
i've really wanted the evo but now that the epic came out
i just want peoples opinion
please this would be such a big help for me thanks again

By January there will be a whole new host of Android phones on the market by then that will make the EVO and Epic old news.. If the rumors are to be believed.. Your probably looking at Dual Core mobile phone processors by Christmas..... At which point it will be myself with the phone envy as I won't be eligible for an upgrade until June....

just my .02 cents... i played with the Epic today and the slide out keyboard killed any desire i had... it didnt feel smooth and it was just awkward. the screen on the Epic also didnt seem as bright even when playing with its settings compared to the EVO... those are my only gripes..

I agree with you 100 percent. I didn't Luke the slide out keyboard at all. I also noticed that there is no double space period with the physical keyboard. The screen was meh. I had read that there were some issues with the back button so I made sure to check that out and it is a real issue. I was pressing the back button repeatedly and it didn't work as it should. The phone seemed cheap to me. It you want a slider Android device, I would Ho with the Droid 2.

I tried both. Have the epic on my 2nd line, evo on my first. I like the evo better because it has better build quality, feels more solid, and I like HTC more than samsung. The screen also looks more natural.

On the Epic, keyboard is nice, screen is nice, colors look good, but they don't look natural at the same time.

Both phones are speedy.

Re: i just tested a Samsung Epic

I keep hearing how the colors are so great, but they're just oversaturated... like turning the color up too far on a ttelevision. No thanks.

Evo to Epic and back to Evo!

Guys, I couldn't hold it in much longer. After I parted with the Evo back in early July, I attempted to deny that I ever liked the EVO, but I couldn't as it was and is still my favorite phone. I had an epiphany yesterday and have decided to come back to the EVO. Now, I'll still be moderating the Samsung boards because my mom still has an Epic and I love helping people out down there. I thought I'd do a LOT more gaming on the Epic, but I barely did. Unfortunately, I'm going back to the Adreno GPU, but simple games should work. I also heard the camera issue can somewhat be fixed with vignette (HTC compression rate problems?). I also love modding my phone and the Evo looks like it has a bunch of options for ROMs. In no way am I saying the Evo is better than the Epic, but all I can say are that both phones are REALLY good and both have their advantages and disadvantages. Now someone point me in the right direction? :)

Also, I'll be glad that I don't have to worry about a loose slider or PenTile Matrix. Indeed, the Super AMOLED screen was awesome, but I put the EVO and the Epic side by side and I really didn't mind the less vibrant colors of the Evo.

Welcome back to the light side. My wife has an Epic. She loves that phone and swear by it. I had a lot of time to play with it. As with any new device you may feel a little envious. But for some reason it didn't feel it. The color of the screen is a lot more richer, however it seems little "fake" to me. I may be a little bias, but I must say this is one helleva machine. And you also made a great choice.

Thanks for the welcome! I'll be around here more often than before. When I last had the Evo, there were no ROMs, no FPS hack, running 2.1, and back in late June/early July. Before my days at AC. So, I'll redeem myself this time. Anyways, with the Epic, it's one of those "I LOVE THIS, but now it's boring" type product. After a while, it doesn't get too exciting. This happens with all phones, but when you have to worry about slider, 3rd party apps, battery (oh, it was worse than the EVO's), and long term support, I'd rather just go with HTC. I've trusted them for a long time, but as for Samsung, I don't have nearly as much trust in them.

those words, you have stolen them from my mouth LOL.

When my co-worker showed me his Epic I was lookin for the button that dispenses the bubblegum. The screen is so vivid it looks like a sticker.

I had to exchange my Evo yesterday for a new one, while I was waiting in the store I played with the Epic.

My Evo (prior to returning it to stock) was rooted and running cyanogenmod 6, which is just a stock installation of android and no fps limit.

It just so happened to be that the Epic had angry birds on it.

Only my hacked Evo could compete with the snap factor of the epic in angry birds, my g/f's stock Evo was more jerky and took longer to load. I'm happy with my Evo but the display and processing power of the Epic just came blaring through in about 10 minutes of trying it out.

I'm glad I have my Evo, I love running the CM6 mod on it, the only question that lingers with me now is what happens when CM6 releases for the Epic?

Edit: My next phone will either have a hummingbird or Tegra 2 chip and def. a super AMOLED display.
