Evo vs. Pre - Headset Port

I've been using A2DP bluetooth headphones for about 9 months. I had issues with wired sets too.

That being said, I think your fear for the HTC phones to have the same issue--while reasonable--is unfounded. HTC phones (made in Taiwan at the Foxconn facility... Foxconn is, incidently, the OEM for iPhones) are better quality than the made in China POS OEM that Palm uses. All my previous HTC phones have been solid as tanks. This isn't to say that an Evo wouldn't have problems, but I think it is highly unlikely this same problem would persist for you.
Yeah... Foxconn main plant is in Shenzen, China.

But thanks for playing!

Am I the only person who managed to make it a full year - bought my Pre on launch day - who still has that original Pre? Other than the flimsy USB door falling off after 9 months and a crack by the USB slot, I've had NONE of the problems that seem to have plagued so many others. No Oreoing, no flashlighting, no loose battery or sticking pixels and keyboards. Wild. I'm just fed up with the laggy, pokey performance and chronic TMC errors. Too bad, Palm, I was a believer.

I am still on the launch day Pre as well, only two hardware issue I have is 2 very thin crack on the right (so thin that you will only notice it in the sun), and a stuck power button that will only work if I press really hard with my nails. My slider is slightly loose, but it's nowhere near the "oreo" I've seen.

Actually come to think about it, I have been using Palm hardware for awhile, an old M125 pda, Treo 600, 700p and the Pre. I actually only had to return the 700p about 1 year into it cause of some sort of memory corruption. I don't know if I am lucky or what, but I just haven't really experience much of hardware problems with them. Although I still agree that they were mostly poorly engineered/manufactured.

Just replaced my SEP 09 Pre because of a Hardware Headphone Jack problem, Sprint guy said there is this disk in there that breaks at the bottom, it's cheaply built basically. Waiting to get my Evo now, goodbye creaky hardware.

I've had this happen...all I did was plug in and out a headset...it took a few times but it worked.

On my third Pre. The local Sprint store knows me by name. :(

to fix this, either reboot or as the guy ahead of me said, plug and unplug the headphones jack about 5-10 times in a row to trick it back into working again.

I'm using a launch day Pre (for 29 more hours :D). It's working but:

  • usb door fell off
  • usb crack extends into screen area
  • smaller cracks at both lower corners of the case front
  • grey coating on the center button is largely chipped off
  • couldn't answer two calls in the last two days because of the headset jack software problem - didn't realize it was stuck until the phone rang.

I've loved this little guy, but I'm ready to move on to the Big Slab.

Nope. Still have my first one. USB door fell off last month though.

i am having issues with my headphone jack on my EVO, it seems really temper mental it will not detect the microphone or the answer /end call button on my Bose in ear mobile headphones. something is up with the jack on mine and i have been searching the forums to see if other folks are encountering similar issues with wired headphones. if the headphone jack moves the slightest it disconnects the radio also.
