Exchange or return?

I've had my Moto X for about a week, having upgraded from an old iPhone 4. It's been going pretty well, but I ran into a showstopper yesterday. I usually plug my phone into my car using the headphone port and an aux cable, but doing this results in static coming from the speakers - an electronic popping sound that just sounds wrong/broken. Is this a common problem with Moto X's, or did I just get a dud? Does anyone know if Amazon will do exchanges for problematic phones, or returns even?

Thanks...

Never had this issue with mine. I use it like this in one of my vehicles all the time & my work headphones too. Have you tried a different cable? How about a set of wired headphones? Or plug it into the AUX input on your receiver in your house to see if it does it there too?

Is your phone plugged into the charger? If so, unplug it and see if that fixes it. If not, try headphones and see if it crackles and pops in your ear.

Mine does this when the charger is plugged in. It varies in the amount of static.

It can also do this if the aux cable does not seat properly and like other people have said, having a charger plugged in will do it as well.
