"Extended Network"

My Verizon moto edge+ sometimes announces "Extended Network" when I'm sitting at home with full-bar Verizon service from a tower a half mile away. There are no other visual or audible indications. I understand this happens when the phone locks on to another tower, but I'm mystified as to why, or if indeed that's what's happening. Thoughts?

Thanks. one suggestion from that thread was cycle Airplane Mode in/off to force reacquisition of the best tower. I'll try that next time, although I haven't seen an indication to alert if I'm in or out of the VZW network.

I would expect that your device came defaulted to "use any tower", I cannot think of the exact wording but basically roam if you have to, since roaming means almost nothing these days. Not like back in the day when you would get a roaming fee for using someone else's tower. I wonder if you could turn on No Roaming and what would happen??? It used to alert you that you were connecting to a roaming tower and ask if you wanted to connect/continue. Of course if you were able to set it to no roaming, then if it asked you could just say connect or continue or whatever since it wouldn't affect your billing, but then you would at least have some kind of heads up. That's if it's important to you.

How is the signal at your home, where I assume this is happening? Recently there was a post from another AC member talking about poor signal in their home and was able to get a Network Extender from Verizon at no charge. I don't know what they had to do to get it but it's not everyday that Verizon gives anything away.

Here's a link to that thread... https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-s10-plus/1006503-my-second-s10.html#post6825462

Thanks for the reply. With respect to the signal at home, I'm a half mile from the tower in clear line of sight, so signal is 5x5.
