External Speaker "crackling" noise?

Hello, I also have this problem. I have only noticed it when using YouTube, it is always at the exact same part of the song, I have tried it with and without the beats software but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Interestingly it happens when I play the song through my headphones so it must be a software issue with the phone. What do I do?

Hello, all.

As the OP, I thought I would give you an update. It was definitely a hardware issue on my phone. I went and exchange the device for a new one and the popping speaker is all gone! The new one works like a champ!

Thanks to everyone that responded!

I was gonna dismiss this issue. But, after thinking about your results...I'm about to do the same thing. I just called Best Buy and they will be expecting me later today for a swap. I'm still in the "show off my phone" phase and who wants to deal with crackling sounds when I'm trying to explain how badass this phone is? Thanks for the advice!

Can anyone that's facing the problem, post the youtube video where the 'crackling' noise is most apparent to you? It'd be nice to have a reference to check if my speaker's screwed up, instead of realizing this a few weeks after the return period.
Thanks

Re: External Speaker "crackling" noise?

The system update doesn't seem to have fixed it.

I have no such setting on my HTC One Developer Edition. I checked every available setting. Can you post a screenshot of this setting?

I would like to clarify this issue for you.
If it is a light crackling in the background or a hissing it is the music source itself.
Whenever you play a audio file with a low bitrate (steaming radio, youtube2mp3, etc.) the quality is sub par however this cannot be heard on an OEM speaker.
Now if you play this same audio file on a high end, or high quality sound amplifier you will notice the background noise.
If you turn off beats the audio is now going through an onboard A/D converter which is sub par to the beats isolated system.
For more information you can google how mp3 file compression works.

I had the same thing happen 2 weeks after I got the phone except it was all the time!! Couldn't even hear people during phone calls!!! Took it back and got a warranty exchange... Now I've had my 2nd one for 2 weeks and just yesterday noticed it again!!!:-( The first time it was just the top speaker but this time it's both!!! I talked to HTC yesterday and they said they're unaware of any speaker issues!!!??? So I got a new one on the way again!!! Third times the charm hopefully!!!

I had this issue, well not with NY first HTC One, I got it replaced due to camera taking blurry images. My second one was actually a massive crackling in my BOTTOM speaker. Especially with the ringtones, I was just going to ignore it cause I couldn't be bothered getting a repair again. But every morning when my alarm would go off I would think, that speaker is F**king faulty!! And had to return it. I received my third and the speaker is OK. But... Nothing compared to the speakers on my first one, they were so crisp and clear. I miss them :( and miss being a show off with them.

Hi guys, I tried to use this app call "Android Speaker Cleaner" seem it work fine to me at the moment.

Hi, I have this problem as well and I noticed that because I work in a very dirty steel fabrication environment that small metallic shards are getting attracted to the speaker magnet and going into the actual speaker assembly area. It got to the point where I couldn't even hear people when they called and that was the final straw (it is after all a phone). It happened to me twice and I just recently sent it in to HTC for the second time to get it repaired under warranty. I hope this helps, if you live/work in a clean environment there shouldn't be a problem.

I've bought HTC One M7 4 months ago..first 2 months was O.K. Then upper external speaker have very very crackling noise (somethimes i barely hear my ringtone). I return it to the shop for service.

Service note : "Problem is solved by giving the user a new device".

OK, I got new device month ago. Now the same problem starts again, now with lower speaker.

I run some tests with "beats sound" off and on,same problem,in both modes. And also with htc guide, checking left channel speaker and right channel speaker.
Problem is with right channel speaker. I will return it to the shop for service again,I hope that they will contact HTC about this f---ing issue..

Re: External Speaker "crackling" noise?

Has anyone found a solution to this issue ???

Everyone is complaining about the speaker not being clear but no one has found a cure ...??

It can be two things....

a) Damaged or blown speaker
b) Faulty daughter-board.

Many people feel its an issue with the updates etc..... that really would not cause issues with the speakers.

Also, disabling beats is not really the answer - just a short term fix.

Its like having a fast car with a top speed of 200mph but, the car is restricted to 30mph! - whats the point lol

so, does anyone have any better ideas to what the solution might be??

Thanks

I've had 3 different M7 ' s with speaker problems. At first I thought I must be hard on the speakers somehow but after replacing the 1st phone I've made a point to keep the volume low and use ear buds for music or YouTube and I still had issues. Very irritating because I bought this phone because of the "boom sound" speakers
