Eyestrain & Headaches with the S10

I've been using my S10 now for a few days. So far I'm really pleased with the device however I've noticed I'm suffering with far more eyestrain and headaches than I was, This could be a coincidence and not be related to the S10 at all but thought I'd see if anyone else was having the same issue?

Currently my display settings are set to:
Brightness 50%ish
Adaptive Brightness - On
Blue Light Filter - On
Night Mode - On (All of the time)
Screen Mode - Natural
Screen Resolution - WQHD+ (3040 x 1440)

Thanks

What device were you using prior to the S10?

You prob just spent more time on the phone than you usually would. I always get headaches when I first get a new phone because I spend a lot of time on it setting it up etc.

I used to get the same but way way way back with my Samsung Epic 4G , S2 and S3. Then I switched over to LG G3 with a LCD display and eye strain/pain went away. I'm now with S10+ and so far everything is ok. I have it on Natural with blue light filter on with FHD for res.

Thanks Neil. Very interesting. Will do some reading up on this issue as I've never heard of PWM before.

No problem. Lots of iPhone users have been moaning of eye strain on the Xs/max and lots if talk about whether it is PWM or the 3d IR face unlock camera. Seems that LCD's do still have some benefits though!

It can also be the way the screen protector passes light through. Maybe try taking off the screen protector.

Up the brightness! The PWM won't be as bad

It could also be the difference in nits going from phone to phone. If you're accustomed to setting your brightness to the same 50% from phone to phone (without taking into consideration that 50% of one could be way higher than 50% of another) then you're effectively blinding yourself. The S10 and S10+ are capable of 1200 nits of peak brightness, which is higher than a lot of TVs on the market. Try setting it lower and see how your eyes adjust, as well as your headaches.

I have been having same issue with the S10+ . Eye strain and headaches. Currently I am testing an app from Google play which I found today called OLED Saver which completely disables PWM ( flickering of AMOLED screen). Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for that

What is blue light filter? is that something most people keep on? I saw it on my 9 plus but I don't think I turned it on but I know I want to put my phone on vivid wqhd the highest there is so do I still want blue filter on?

Thanks for all the input and suggestions.
So I've replaced my lock screen and background image with a really dark, simple (boring) image and so far so good (although it might be too early to tell for sure).
I did try changing from Vivid to Natural display but this made no difference.

I will continue to play around with the settings and see what works and what doesn't.
Thanks again for all the valuable feedback.
