Eyestrain & Headaches with the S10

I have been having same issue with the S10+ . Eye strain and headaches. Currently I am testing an app from Google play which I found today called OLED Saver which completely disables PWM ( flickering of AMOLED screen). Let me know if it works for you.

Have you decided that this worked for you? I have been having SERIOUS eye strain since I got the S10 in April. I thought I was crazy to think it could be the phone's fault--I went to the eye doctor a few days ago trying to figure it out. I don't want to go through the hassle of buying a new phone but if this app doesn't work, I may have to!

I never noticed a screen flicker, probably because I did this the second it became available.

Settings/Display/Night Mode/Turn On Now.

I never turn it off.

It all depends on how sensitive your eyes are.

Yes. It doesn't work. I am positive it's the flickering. I bought a new phone with a LCD display on Saturday. It's a bummer...but I am hoping that solves this issue. It's been a rough couple of months with the S10.

Do you look at your device for more than an hour straight and/or in complete darkness??

The 5G has a built-in blue light filter, wish they’d also release that on the standard S10s

Standard s10s do have them , but other poster didn't work for them .

At least here, Samsung is advertising the filter as being hardware, not software for the 5G.

Me neither, just got an ad for it about half an hour ago and immediately thought about this thread. Of course, the 5G does not have the same display as the regular 10s. To be honest though, I doubt it’s the blue light that causes eye strain. It’s usually the electrostatic field all displays produce (some more and some less) that literally “throw” microscopic dust particles in the eyes, which dry them out and irritate them. The larger the display, the more problems. I have the same issues with my current Xs Max.

This was a article I posted awhile back , so surprised that people having the issue.

The display should be the same as the standard s10 , only thing I've read was ,bigger battery/chip for the 5g/different camera mode.

I have no clue what they have in there - it’s the Exynos Version here, they sometimes differ hardware wise from the Qualcomms

From my experience over the years between exynos vs snap dragon = different chips /camera some used Sony or Samsung but display I wouldn't think be different between the 2.

Personally I think Night Mode used during the day all the time may be the culprit. Night Mode is designed for night...so your screen will be a lot dimmer because the ambient light should be a lot less. Not so sure the high black/white contrast at an increased daytime screen brightness (especially in auto adjust mode) is a good idea from an eye strain perspective.

I keep blue light filter on all the time but restrict Night Mode to dusk-dawn.

Had the same problem but with Galaxy S7.
After about 10 minutes of screen watching my eyes and head started to hurt.
Really liked the phone but because of pain caused by PWM screen flickering, had to swap it with Huawei Mate 10 which has IPS LCD. No more eye or headache since then.

I have had my s10plus for over a week now. I am not someone that gets headaches. But have for the ladt week and abit had terrible headaches especially on the right side behind my eye. This now makes absolute sense to me. Did the s9 and n9 have the pwm issue or only the s10. Had both previous models and no problems. Or is it just something that happens to a certain mumber of phones and the rest are ok
