Face unlock is actually pretty great once you make it past the initial shock

I admit - I was questioning this whole face unlock thing, even feeling a little disappointment, as I started using my P4XL. I even posted here how it seemed to be unlocking when I would prefer it not to. I see several threads complaining about it from various angles.

I got my phone on day one. Now 4 days into it, I'm getting the hang of it. My questioning and disappointment are gone, replaced by really liking this phone. I am learning what activates the face sensors, lowering the number of unintentional unlocks. I figured out how to unlock it while its laying on a table, and how it doesn't do it otherwise. I learned how to wake it for that occasional time when it doesn't wake on its own (double-tap). I'm starting to naturally change the way I carry the phone so it's not on the whole time. I am not feeling like my security is in danger. The best part - it's all becoming comfortable and normal.

So... if you just received your phone and at that questioning/disappointment phase with face unlock, give it a few days. I suggest you don't panic over the threads labeling face unlock a failure. We're all going from years of fingerprint sensors (or PIN or pattern) that impacted how we handled and used our phones. Unless you have been using an iPhone, this is a whole new ballgame.

It's not perfect, room for improvement, especially sensing alertness and gaining more apps that support it. But - it's pretty cool.

For me, it’s probably my favorite thing about the phone. Works extremely fast and well for me

I think the face unlock works great . This is not the first phone I have had , that has that feature :)

Yep, I'm loving it too. Just need more app devs to update their apps. I'm no developer, but putting in that functionality shouldn't be that hard, should it?

I'm not a developer either but from what I read, I understand it to be really easy. It's a matter of upgrading to the current Biometrics API, that's been out a while. The old one handled fingerprints. The new one handles fingerprints and faces. It sounded to me like you don't do much - it automatically figures out what your phone has.

But - it would be great if someone with more dev knowledge than me could confirm.
