Facebook app problems

I had a problem with my phone this morning. I leave it on charge every night, but this morning it was powered off (it was on when I went to sleep with it plugged in). It wouldn't power on with the normal few second press, I had to hold the power button for more than 15 seconds before it started booting. Once it booted there was a popup that said "Facebook app has stopped" with the close app and send feedback choices. Then a notification popped up that said the Facebook app version was incompatible with the device.

Is it possible that a bad app update could have shut off my phone? And has anyone else experienced this?

it is possible a bad update keeps the phone CPU awake and drains the battery, causing a dead phone in the morning. restart your phone. if it happens again, check the battery stats and remove any app (starting with FB) and see if that resolved the issue.

I find it hard to believe that a rogue app can drain the battery faster than it can charge, but I guess it's possible. Nevertheless, I uninstalled the app then reinstalled from the Play store and haven't had any problems since.
