Is there a way to block access to the GPS from FB mobile? I've rolled back the updates to the Droid's original version but that's not ideal.

I don't think so but I've never tried. Unless you use the Places to check in somewhere, Facebook doesn't use your GPS.

That's what I thought but the last three times I opened it, the GPS icon popped up. I've never used it to check in anywhere.

I looked around the app but I don't see anything. If you are worried about this you will have to turn off your phones GPS.

You might check the Facebook main site to see if there are options there.

Reinstalled the app - it's still engaging the GPS. Checked out the privacy settings on the app and on the main site through the Android browser: nothing.

If I'm not checking in, why does FB need to know where I am?

WTF?

good question. When I would post something from my phone, then go home and log into facebook, it would show my post AND what town etc I was in when I posted.

Mine isn't posting my location at least, just tracking it. Maybe the problem is in your security settings?

Mine had been doing that. On phone app I changed to never update on update interval so I can do it manually and it hasnt come back on.

I always had mine set to never update. And it STILL turned the GPS on every time I would open the app and hang for like 30 seconds after I closed it. AND, on top of this there is a 30mb running service in the background at all times. Facebook SUCKS!

I have since deleted it and just use the website.

Luckily, when I did have it installed I was running Cm7 and could revoke permissions for apps. So I did so with facebook and location and it would never run. But, if your stock and can't do that the only thing you can do really is turn off GPS in the system so it won't do it or live with it. (Or delete it all together like I have done). :)
