Facebook (build 140579)

OK everyone I had this same message pop up on my RAZR maxx yesterday. Could not get it to go away. Got home last night after work and connected to my Wi-Fi and it downloaded. Guess what else downloaded... Jellybean! FINALLY!:)

I had this happen last night, deleted the download via apps>downloads> other downloads> then trashed it..

So my question is:

Is this build 140579 a NEEDED UPDATE? And if so, how do I start it downloading again? Ill connect to WiFi this time haha

Thank you autume83. This worked for me. I have an HTC sensation phone, and for a couple days I have been trying to figure out how to get rid of build 140579. I read your solution and it worked! Thank you! :)

My WiFi was on and it still took hours and hours downloading and never completed. I found this forum and just deleted the download, we'll see if it pops up again.

No! Problem not solved! Selected it, clear selection, check mark goes away and in progress stays.

Got it! Thanks

So many of the posts here just want to deal with the symptom and not the disease.

Sure deleting the download will solve the symptom... until the download starts again.

The disease is that Facebook is deliberately going outside of the normal update process of delivering these via the Google Play Store. Why should you be concerned about this? The update process through the Play Store scans updates for viruses, malware, etc. If Facebook follows through with this, then there is no scanning of their updates. They will be able to update their app on your phone without your consent, and even without your knowledge!!

well i have the same thing go to settings, storage and select sd card downloads and then find it and delete but it keeps coming back and causes serious battery drain please anybody have a solution :mad:

The moment I got home and my phone connected to wi-fi, the updated finished, but today as soon as I left the wi-fi zone another one of those stupid updates came back! The same Build 140579 too, this is such a pain. I'm on 4G and it still won't go away.

I've sent a request to AC as a news tip to find out information about this, but so far no dice. With the S4 release I'm sure they're overwhelmed.

Mine finally quit after I connected to WiFi. It asked me to install so I did but it said "installation failed". I deleted Facebook and reinstalled from the play store. I have not seen it again.

I tried this as well on my Galaxy Nexus - but, it came back after opening FB. I find it a bit frustrating and odd that they seem to be circumventing Google Play store for updates! As it has been mentioned, seem a bit fishy!
