Hello there, my frustration with FB 1.9.11 is huge. And I guess I'm not alone. Has anyone found a "fix" for the FB notifications, which do not work at all?
I'm still on 4.0.4. Every other app notifications work but the FB ones. I tried re-installing, deleting account, restarting etc. None of the orthodox approaches did work.

official facebook is a shockingly bad app mate but theres a few alternatives. try Friendcaster.. there might be some better alternatives by now.

p.s have you checked in "accounts and sync" settings to make sure facebook is there?

I think it's also something to do with touchwiz, I had no issues with the HTC ONE X but since swapping for a S3 the only ones I get are close friends status/picture updates nevr comments or likes. I don't know if this is Facebook (probable) or Samsung, 3rd party apps are the way forward.

I don't get any notifications. I've checked and re-checked every option and setting to a point I started to question my own sanity. Nothing comes through.
But I've noticed that after log in form the app, it didn't set any permissions at my FB account page - there is no Facebook App in My Apps. And I too believe it is somehow connected to the Samsung weird way of handling 3rd party apps.

I'm honestly not sure then, without sounding like the proverbial IT tech department have you tried uninstalling the app the rebooting then reinstalling?

this is strange lol.. not a touchwiz thing. the app is crap on any phone but the app should be visible on your phone...

oops think i misread sorry.
have you checked in "accounts and sync" "add account" and add "facebook"?

What I meant is that when you log in from the app for the first time, usually it prompts you to allow facebook with permissions to do this and that on your real FB web account. So when you go into your computer browser to facebook in "app center" ->"my apps" section there should be an app "facebook for android". And that's exactly what is not happening to many people, me included. It doesn't push because there is nothing to do the pushing from the web side. Somehow the FB mobile app doesn't fully connect with your account, it acts as a read only container.

Notifications are working fine on mine.
I used the app settings to enable the notifications I wanted. And if you use the app to go the account settings, there are some options to enable/disable too.
I just use notification for messages though.
If you tried this already, I can't help. =/

cool i understand what you meant now sorry mate. but does the official fb app require permission?
and have you checked if your fb account is definately linked to the phone in the phone settings?

Yes, of course it's linked and syncing contacts, avatars and info. Everything works fine except for the notifications. And, of course, the extremely slow connection of the fb app - sometimes it takes more than 10 re-tries to load the news feed. For comparison's sake, twitter and yahoo mail apps load everything under 2 seconds at most. It's clear to me that the fb app is horribly unstable and sluggish, but not pushing notifications at all - I don't get it.

im stumped then sorry.
works as expected for me

On a side note Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly forcing all developers of the Android Facebook app to actually use it everyday until they come up with a better version.

I personally hate the Facebook for Android app. I use Friendcaster, but still not a big fan. I prefer to use my browser for Facebook. I made a bookmark shortcut to my notification page and put it on my homescreen.

I'm inclined to agree with this. I had the same lack of Facebook notifications until I updated to JB.
