Facebook video stops after few seconds of playing

[Android Central Question]

I bought a new pixel XL 2 and while trying to play a video in Facebook it stops after few seconds. I turned off the autoplay video in Facebook settings.

I tried force quit app and clear data and cache and also uninstall and installed again but still the same issue. This is the latest version.

Any help is much appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data? Does it play normally on the Facebook mobile site in Chrome?

I have the same issue on my google pixel 2 xl as well. both wifi and mobile data.
doesnt happen on chrome.
but i guess there are others with same issue on one plus and Samsung S8

Same here. Videos will quit after playing for seconds. You have to press play again and again during the duration of the video. I have the latest update.

Here's a new, interesting twist.... The video plays just fine when you put it in Landscape mode.

Happens with S8 and Note 8 also, so I think it's app related. It happens to me since a few weeks.

Hi, I maybe got the same problem here with the HTC u 11. But I don't think it is time relative. Because when someone else posts a reaction on the video, the video stops. So, Videos that go viral are impossible to watch in portrait mode.

Maybe facebook/android thinks that it get a notification and stops the video?

Same. Happening on my VZW Note 8. Reinstalled FB and it got a little better, but still happening.
