Go to Settings> Device maintenance> Memory and then clear. This will stop third party background apps from running on your phone and within the Facebook application.

I'm using a Moto Z3 Play and having the same issue. I'm 98% sure it's an Android issue and here's why. If it were the latest Facebook update, I would have solved it because I used older versions and still had the same problem. I went back to the latest version of Facebook and it's still happening. I'm also getting this even worse problem where my text, even as I'm writing this, will minimize as I'm typing so whatever is behind my text box, forces me to click because my text minimizes automatically and if I am typing, I accidentally click. Hope that makes sense. Seems everyone is using different Android phones so it must be an Android problem. Still no fix yet.

Fixed! I'm using a Moto Z3 Play and had a technician remote into my phone. Her first step was to go to settings, system, reset options, reset app preferences, reset apps. Boom, all done! This also fixed my keyboard from minimizing every two seconds. Now everything seems to be working in order. Hope this helps!

Click the settings Icon/button on the video being playing. Then instead of "Auto" for the quality, pick what you want the video to be played in. Most likely, the auto setting is switching the quality of graphics it is playing the video in based on your bandwidth availablitity, download speed, buffering, etc. Everytime it switches (ie. 960p to 1080p or vice versa) either the video may pause (autoplay on video settings might effect the result) or the video control options (the pause or play button and the video timeline bar) will pop up as if you had tapped the screen or clicked the video or even just hovered your cursor over it. This annoyed the crap outta me for the longest time. Like YEARS. Once i selected a video quality and took it off Auto... prob solved... so simple yet so annoying....
