All banking and government apps brands my factory new phone as rooted.

How is that possible and how do I fix it

I am not rooted and I pass safety net request....I don't get it

What setting is killing me here?

Did you actually buy this from an authorized retailer, or third party? Some unscrupulous third party retailers have been known to root and mess with phones, then sell them as "factory new."

Welcome to Android Central! I made you the owner of the original guest post to make it easier for you to find.

I'd bring the phone back to the retailer and show them. Maybe the phone was a return from someone else who actually rooted the phone before returning it.

Thanks

I would if I could. The physical store is in the other end of the country. That's why I need to know what setting or cache or whatever needs to be reset/deleted/changed so the apps don't mistake it for a rooted phone when all detection apps clearly states that it is not rooted and never have been

Developer option for sure

In that settings see if oem lock is on , if not bootloader is unlocked and needs to be locked

Go to settings>about phone>status information scroll down , does phone status say official?

They would have the unlocked bootloader warning message at startup if it was unlocked. I've never found a way around that.

You can also check if your device is certified in the play store. That can cause problems with apps. Open the play store then hit your profile picture in the top right. Go to settings->about and then scroll to the bottom.

If it says device is not certified then try clearing the data on the play store and restart your phone.
