Factory reset and reinstall Madden Mobile

I'm going to hand down my Nexus 10 to my son who plays Madden Mobile on my Nexus 10 (have a Nexus 9 waiting in the wings). I would like to factory reset and re-install Madden Mobile where he leaves off.

Should I connect it to my desktop and backup a particular folder or just save to my wife Facebook account (I don't have a Facebook account) before resetting for best results?

I don't want to lose his progress. He'd be crushed.

Usually, logging into a game using Facebook or Google+ saves the progress to that account. You could do a test--login with your wife's Facebook account, then on a separate device, install Madden Mobile and then login with the same Facebook account. Does the progress restore there?

One potential pitfall is that if you login with Facebook, it might think that you're starting a new campaign.
