1. I am using a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), initially my problem was my phone restarting by itself repetitively and I wanted to troubleshoot this so I did research looking into it and one of the reasons may be because I needed to update my phone (which I rarely do), so as I'm updating my phone it didn't occur to me that my phone would start restarting during the updating process, now all of a sudden after 3 restarts, a pop up message has appeared displayed through the software update page stating the following #fail to open recovery_cause (No such file or directory) #

#report recovery cause is [unknown] #
Support single-sku
File-Based OTA
Supported API: 3

2. At this point I begin losing my mind, I'm panicking and the phone restarts to only get stuck on the samsung loading screen not progressing whatsoever after hours of waiting.
3. I have tried rebooting via recovery mode, I have tried turning off the phone and "plugging" it & to no avail I'm not sure what to do. Is this the end of my phone? Is this the end of all my important files on my phone, is my phone retrievable without restarting the entire database?

I'm not phone techy and I have no idea what to do, can someone please help? I'm tempted to take these to the take guys.

i have a samsung s7 SM-G930A, its unlocked cuz i use another service on it, i got a situation where i couldn't access my phone due to Directional LOck, that option is so crazy i had to erase my phone using Googles Find my device. Unfortunatly it got stuck in no command loop, i can't access recovery mode either. ive downloaded both Odin and Frija, (can't also find firmware for my model, if i use another, is there a chance i wouldn't brick it?). what next??.

Frija wont have Att firmware, try SamMobile or use firmware SM-G930T TMB

Hello folks - sorry to bother you, but Android is a bit of a mystery to me - I can build a windows PC from scratch with no bother, and I can write a whole website in HTML code on Notepad, but my 70 year old brain just goes "flip-flop" when I try to implement the fix for what appears to be a pretty common problem!
In a nutshell, I have before me a Samsung SM-T585 A6 tablet that looks to be stuck in some sort of "boot loop"
The screen flips betwen 2 states - one showing little robot logo and "installing updates", the other with lines of text beginning with the fateful words "#fail to open recovery - cause (No such file or directory)#"
I have downloaded Odin and Frija onto my PC, connected tablet to my PC and was hoping FRija would tell me what CSC was required (presume that is the required firmware bundle???), but it just says "error; please specify csc"
Clearly I am being a bit thick, and expect friendly insults along those lines, but if somebody can please give me id1ot-proof instructions on the exact steps to take, I will be most grateful.

Hi welcome to AC!
Since it says united kingdom open I would use the more popular CSC BTU

Thanks for that - I am still left with 2 problems
1. Finding a trustworthy download site for CSC BTU - preferable free - anybody?

2. Tablet is still stuck in the same boot loop as described previously - I have opened it up, tried disconnect/reconnect battery (no joy) and found battery voltage is down to 2.9v - so I have ordered some miniature test clips to allow me to attach a Li-Ion battery charger directly to the battery. If I can get the battery up to correct voltage, I understand I may stand a better chance of success with the 3 key startup routine - all advice welcome on that sunject too please!
many thanks!

Hey All,

Having all of the above problems with my Samsung A5 2017. Downloading do not turn off target, won't restart is on a loop. Won't enter recovery mode, then flashing between system update and about the cache. Have downloaded odin and frija but no clue what to do next. Thanks for all the support so far. Very grateful and would love to be able to hold on to the data which hasn't been backed up. Any help very much appreciated x

Thanks very much and thanks for getting back @mustang7757.

I've downloaded all. Frija is saying "please make sure Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 redistributable package (x86) and Microsoft visual C++ 2010 resdistributable package (x86) are installed. Not sure what the story is with that?

Many thanks

Downloaded Microsoft visuals Frija requested so past that point. With Frija, I'm not able to get the IMEI or phone info because the phone is not going on but think the model is SM-A520F and in Ireland so looked up a CSC code 3IE.

Decrytping atm.. will update asap

There were a few different files in 7zip and tried to extract the ap file from frija but it says no permission.. when I go to Ap in Odin - no files are there.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Once you extract the download zip should be around 5 files you don't need to try extract anything more , so go to odin and put each file in corresponding slot in Odin except CSC slot you want the firmware home CSC so it won't factory reset, to get those files in Odin you can drop them from where the firmware was extracted or press each tap in Odin slots it will take u to search and go where the download files are , leave the the last slot in Odin empty and put device in download mode and connect with cable the device to computer and press start in Odin

Hi @mustang7757,

My apologies I didn't see the reply until today.

Thanks so much. That's very helpful. I didn't realise I hadn't extracted the files after they'd downloaded from Frija. I hadn't been able to get them into Odin. That was why.

I've done all of the above but it says it's failed. Have repeated and repeated and same.

Home Binary Download, Total Binary size, Setup connection. Can't open the serial (COM) port. All threads completed. Succeed 0 / Failed 1

Many thanks

Hi @Mustang,

Just an update on my previous reply to this message...

Changed USB port, download mode and it said added, odin ending, setup connection, initialisation, rqt_close!!, res ok!! removed!! remain port... 0 , all threads completed succeed 1 / failed - it says pass and went to restart but it is back to blue android installing system update to #fail to open recovery causes no such file or directory.
