Fake Samsung Galaxy S3?

I mean using a knock off in general isnt illegal, the illegal part is the logo brand which is what you said

If the knockoff infringes on trademark, purchasing it is illegal. Period. Just like purchasing a fake Gucci bag or knockoff Prada shoes. I suppose maybe you could make a claim that you just found it, didn't actually buy it, then you could say you didn't break any laws. But, if found by the authorities, the device can be confiscated even after you took possession, even long after it was purchased. Now then, if someone created a "knockoff" that was labelled Samkang, instead of Samsung, written in a different script, and had enough visible differences from the original, that would probably be legal. But no one's going to bother making a knockoff that doesn't look enough like the original to fool people.

Yeah but the amount of fake things I see on a market and the police or anything dont take any action or anything like that, if its illegal noone would buy something that's fake

Sigh. The police have much better things to do with their time than police this. It's really the responsibility of the customs service (that's what the U.S. calls it, not sure what it's called in the U.K.) But the fact that it's rarely enforced doesn't make it legal. And you have far more faith in your fellow man than I if you think no one would do something simply because it's illegal. I suppose no one's setting speed cameras on fire in England any more?

Please don't post opinions about legal matters without doing at least a little bit of research first.

But the whole point is buying something thats fake isnt illegal, manufacturing something that also has identical properties and also has the brand printed on

Go study the law, and international treaties. You'll find that knowing buying counterfeit merchandise IS illegal, just as knowingly buying stolen goods. The fact that it's rarely enforced doesn't make it legal.

You're entitled to your own beliefs, but not your own facts.

you will have to cite the specific statute for me because in the US this would fall under the trademark counterfeiting act, which makes it a crime to traffic in trademarked counterfeit goods, which is not an offense committed by the buyer, only the seller. It's 18 USC 2320.

I was recently in Bangkok, Thailand and thought I had a good deal when I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S3 for AUS$200, I was a bit surprised when I noticed that a lot of the apps were in chinese script and I couldn't uninstall them. I now realise that I've purchased a nice replica and would like to 'root' it (.....if possible?) Can anyone help me with this? I tried the 3-button reboot but all I got was a very sad-looking dead android with a red triangular road warning-sign! (....life's a learning-curve, aint 'it ;))

If a deal seems to good to be true, it probably is.....

Anyway, it's not necessarily a replica, it may just be a Chinese market version. Unfortunately, trying to root it without knowing exactly what it is, what root procedure to follow, and what recovery to apply stands a good chance of bricking the phone.

if you are questioning it its is probably fake. But if you want to know for sure try to pair it with samsung Kies, if it reads it you are good, if it says anything about "spreadtrum" its fake.

the fake phones also have ' / ' in the imei

i was wondering how can you reset it to factory default
it is locked
I'm not sure what this has to do with the topic.

But you can boot into Recovery mode and perform a Factory Reset even if the phone is locked.
