Hello,
Last night I received brand new (supposedly) S23 Ultra 512GB from eBay seller with100% rating and excellent return policy.

Everything works fine and all the Updates were completed successfully, but the screen seemed very low quality in the low brightness in the evening.

Then I noticed that display corners are ROUNDED !!! Rounded as they are in Samsung A55 or A34 model but installed in square cornered S23 Ultra frame!

I checked the IMEI and the serial number, as well as the CPU, GPU info with two different apps ( Aida64 and DevCheck) and they report all correct model numbers to my knowledge.
Also, tall he performance (other then the screen) seem perfect!

Rear cameras are also amazing, including 10x telephoto, as well as low light performance. Speakers also sound much better than my Fold 3 and S10+

So whats up? Someone found the compatible cheap display and installed it on perfectly good S23 Ultra?

Any thoughts?

Here are few pictures. Hope to get some answers before I return it to seller and get my money back.

Compared to my S23 Ultra, that looks VERY different than what my screen looks like., I would send it back.

Used phones, nowadays, seem so sketchy that it's almost not worth the risk anymore. I brother bought a used S23Ultra and after a week, was black-listed for non-payment... :(

Yeah the s23u never had squares
Go to settings>about phone>status information>phone >does it say official?
Was the box sealed?
In settings>about phone>IMEI matches with the box?

@mustang7757
You mean S23Ultra never had rounded corners ? Real S23U has display matching the sharp corners of the outside frame. This one is... well look at it ^^ 🥴
Yes the box was sealed, but now that Im recalling, it was not very solid clear cover, but kind of cheap. Yes, the EMIE and s/n match the box sticker. Status says "official" All hardware seems legitimate except the screen itself looks like its from M55 or something :)

I never heard of fake case like this before!!

Im returning it (hopefully) for full refund.

Never had rounded corners outside frame for sure but inside definitely not unless your using an app like nacho or touched anything in developer settings?

By the way, if anyone knows if the Samsung 837 store repair center in Manhattan NYC still works (not closed for good) let me know here. I'd like to bring it there but not waste my trip/time. Noone ever answers the phone, but google says its open till 8pm every day. Not very convincing..

I'm sure you checked this already, but just in case -- it didn't come with a screen protector pre-applied, right? Some screen protectors might add a black border.

Here is more photos of the screen quality above for future reference. In medium or high brightness settings the bad graphics of display is not noticeable. Only when you lower it a lot for the evening and dim environment use.

This phone was certainly altered with cheap screen, and repacked, maintaining legitimate IMEI and Serial number.

My wife's S23U has rounded screen corners, just like your first two attachments above.

And that sure looks like a screen protector, to me, in your far right, [ Screen Shot 2024-3-13 at...] .jpg image attached above. As the rounded corner in which you're pointing to — looks farther inwards from the phones' physical corner than the display screen typically is. Though maybe it just looks that way.

It is not a screen protector :)
Also, it was in new sealed box. Supposedly new.

P.S
I came a cross a comment of one Youtuber mentioning a S22 Ultra fakes having rounded corners like that. In his video he had a fake S23 Ultra with regular corners but very crappy cameras and processor/memory.

Well, hmmm. Actually, I didn't look at my wifes' S23U, but when I asked her last night she said the corners were rounded. And hers is definitely 100% official.

This is very interesting now. Im looking forward to hear more after you see it. Please let us know and maybe post photos. Also, you can test the image contrast and green hue when brightness is lowered to minimum.
Thanks.

The display should be like this and are not rounded

Yeah, right, that is if ... she'll let me touch her phone, let alone run some 'test's.
Which for some unknown reason she doesn't seem to like for me to do. :cautious::unsure:

Well, there is a very small rounded corner (in upper left corner of lower image, especially when you magnify). Maybe that's what my wife was seeing.

I don't recall small rounded on my s23u, Now I'm on s24u, OP rounded corners in the display is definitely not on the s23u unless an app was used or developer option

🤣🤣
If my Husband sees me walking toward him with a certain expression on my face, he just reaches his phone out to me & says 'Have at it!'

He doesn't even bother to ask why.
😁

C'mon man, do it for the sake of all husbands out there, and the other possible fake screen S23Ultra owners 😄 Im counting on you !!
Well since you're counting on me, here's a screenshot of her S23U. But the corners do look a little rounded, in person, (like at the upper left corner of mustang7757's lower image in post # 15).

. . . I just hope you appreciate what I had to risk to get that screenshot! 😉 It kinda reminds me of when I used to get in trouble as a little kid, from my Mother, for my rambunctious misdemeanoring attempts at getting in the cookie jar! 😬
