Fascinate Froyo Speculation and Rumors

I hope you're right. That's what I kept telling my Dare... ;)

Oh no, please don't bring up the Dare. I consider that time of my life to be the "dark era". A phone with gobs of potential and was left dying on the vine.

What was it, the V11 that was supposed to come out and make everything better? Its been a long time, but I remember it being awful.

Thank God that we are on Android devices now, and we have devs that can move us forward. We are no longer slaves to Verizon's BS!

Either way, I will still have my phone for a long time. I love it!

I use a 8330 curve for work and I loathe that device. It is a constant reminder of what I came from.

Just my .02 worth.

I called Verizon today, to ask where the update was that was suppose to show up back in October. They said they are sorry and that its basically Samsung's fault. I asked him about Verizon receiving the update from Samsung on march 15th and he said that was true, but it was sent back to samsung because of an issue and now they are again waiting on samsung.

im no expert, the guy on the phone didnt sound like an expert, so who knows.

You will never get any viable information from VZW support, tech, Samsung support, chat, etc... They just don't know the information. They have form responses that they give, and anything beyond that is most likely made up.

Stick to the forums, we will know something before any sales rep does!

A less doomy and gloomy theory is that Samsung had the Binged froyo in the pipe and Verizon sorted it out with Microsoft and they have some issue with de-binging it.

Anything is possible really.

Problem with that theory is, Samsung is not the one who put bing on the phone, Verizon is the one who entered into the contract with Microsoft. Hence the Fascinate is the only Galaxy S phone with Bing. Adrynalyne and other devs had no trouble removing bing, so the actual physical removal of bing is not an issue that should hold up the release.

I find it hard to believe that Samsung would leave it to Verizon to modify the code for the soft touch buttons and some of the other bing integrations. If anything Samsung may but I doubt let verizon put on their stupid bloatware. The reason for this is Samsung has to give Verizon a product to test and if Verizon breaks it Samsung is off the hook (which makes absolutely no sense from my perspective if I was working at Verizon). I would give Samsung what I want in the update and let them deal with it, allowing me to freely blame Samsung and force them to fix it per whatever contractural obligation we setup.

Also we know samsung is slow to update stuff its possible when verizon rejects a build its put back to the end of the queue for fixes.

And the moral of the story is Never buy a device based on the promise of better software to come latter. Latter never comes and the device you bought will never live ip to it's potential.

Wanna know something kind of hilarious?

I started this thread, awhile back, because I was mad I didn't have 2.2. I don't want to root, it's not my style any longer, and thus I am stuck with Eclair. I said angry things about the phone...

and then went out last night and bought a second for my daughter!

LOL in the end, the phone is fine, even without 2.2. Really. It is.

Apologies if this idea has been thrown out previously in the thread -- I haven't been around much.

It seems increasingly apparent that the delay is due to a contractual issue and not a technical issue. Nearly 9 months of delays to simply port firmware is categorically absurd, particularly when virtually every other product on the market not only has 2.2 but is already looking beyond.

An idea that's been floated is that in order to assuage the more vocal / technically savvy Fascinate owners, they've leaked abandoned (but mostly functional) versions of the firmware. That keeps us happy and quieter than we would be otherwise, and since they're "leaked," they aren't violating their contract with Microsoft regarding the inclusion of Bing. :)

At this point, it's extremely unlikely that we'll ever see an official 2.2 release for the Fascinate, and Verizon's complete wall of silence on the matter is not encouraging. I've come to terms with that: what I've not come to terms with is the fact that huge numbers of people made purchasing decisions and entered into contracts based on the A) implicit understanding that Froyo was on the way "in the near future," and B) the explicit understanding that 2.2 was to be released "no later than the end of the year." (2010)

As far as I'm concerned, that's class action lawsuit material.

2.2 froyo fascinate

Will FROYO 2.2 ever be released for FASCINATE?

AND

WHICH PHONE IS BETTER THE DROID X OR FAS?

I think if you ask a which phone is better question in a forum dedicated to one phone, your answers may be bias.

European Galaxy's Getting Gingerbread. Where's our official Froyo?

I'm relatively new here and I'm sure this has been discussed ad naseum, so I apologize if I missed the threads, but after seeing today that all the European Galaxy's are getting Gingerbread, what's the hold up with an official Froyo for the Fascinate? I know I could probably root and put Froyo on my phone, but I'm too scared and from what I read about Superclean 2.9 it's probably missing some of the Samsung stuff I like. I use Launcher Pro now and love everything about that. Any thoughts out there? Thanks.

Well two threads down there is the Fascinate Froyo News, discussion, and speculation thread. Other than that, without the verizon apps it wouldn't be right, so of course they won't release it until the stupid apps are working properly.
