Fascinate Froyo Speculation and Rumors

Do. Really think that verizon would let2.3 come out on this phone before there droidx I don't think so.

Droid X just got 2.3. If there's any truth to this rumor, I'd imagine that 2 months in Verizon speak = 20 months in real time. So we'll probably all be long out of contract before that happens.

My reasoning tells me that this is true.. Froyo is taking way too long to come out for this device, especially with all the other Galaxy S phones updated. In addition there are too many Fascinate people calling both Vzw and Samsung daily to complain for them not to have noticed...I have a feeling that a jump straight to gbread is probably what will happen. (At least the thread inside of me that hopes)

Then again, this came from a Vzw service rep...which makes the probability around 40%. I feel I get help about 40% of the time I have called with a technical issue. The rest of the time, they can't find the question I have in their automated computer screen helper that they're using..

AND if they can't get Froyo to gel with our phone, why would they all of a sudden get Gingerbread to work flawlessly?

There's no indication that this is true. If it were, why are we seeing leaked versions of Froyo and not Gingerbread?

As for the number of complaints: the contractual relationship between Verizon Wireless and Microsoft concerning Bing on the Fascinate is much, much more financially important than a couple hundred Fascinate owners *****ing and moaning about the lack of support.

The most likely scenario, quite frankly, is that the Fascinate with be receiving neither Froyo nor Gingerbread, and that aside from a few modified, hacked ROMs that seem to be coming out every so often, there will be NO further official updates for the Fascinate. If you're using 2.1-update1, you are currently using the last officially released firmware that the Fascinate will ever receive.

If you want to use an official version of Froyo/Android 2.2 with a Verizon Galaxy S device, you will need to take a look at one of the new Galaxy S II products about to hit the market.

So they have made 3 iterations of Froyo builds just to quit. I doubt that, highly.

Not to quit, no, but the leaks are simply a means to assuage the most tech-savvy, vocal Fascinate owners until their contractual obligation to Microsoft re: Bing is fulfilled. If they push an official release without Bing prior to meeting that obligation, they'll be liable. If they push a Bing'd official release, they'll be infuriating Fascinate owners and breaking their word. It's a difficult position to be in, both PR-wise and financially, and the slow stream of leaks is frankly a pretty elegant solution. The only catch is that there will never be an "official" release, as most of us keep irrationally expecting despite nearly 9 months of evidence to the contrary with zero new information from VZW.

yeah i really doubt this, as the "tech-savvy" of us is less than 1% of their market. they wouldnt dedicate time and money building an unofficial build to appease us.

I'm with you in terms of reasoning, but to continue a bit with devil's advocacy: if you look at the Froyo leaks, they haven't been substantively different -- at least, not in any way that would take a single developer more than a week or two hammering away at the code. If even one dev were doing that, it'd be a very small price to pay for a very big PR benefit -- that mere 1% can have an incredible impact on any company when they're sufficiently pissed off. If there were no leaks at this point, we'd probably be seeing media headlines on this issue or, worse, legal sabre-rattling...

So long as people keep up with the "oh it'll get here eventually, gosh darn it" ethos, they can take just as long as they please. If they've got consumers willing to accept "we're working on it" for over half a year now when other devices are about to upgrade to *2.3*, how long do you suppose those consumers will continue to wait? Keep throwing a few "leaks" at 'em, and VZW will have some people using the Fascinate patiently for a bloody decade. :)

Not a rumor...in the universe of VZW, Motorola is like democracy. Everything else...well...we are waiting for Godot. :(

Please feel free to correct me, but to my knowledge...there has been only one leaked Froyo (Anroid 2.2) build for the Verizon Fascinate SCH-I500. That would be EB01.

What "leaks" are you referring to that "aren't substantially different" .

The ROM's that have been developed thus far have been dipped from a number of other model's of Galaxy S's, but to my knowledge, EB01 remains the only Froyo build meant for our exact handset, on our carrier Verizon Wireless.

The activity in this thread further reinforces what a bad reputation Samsung has. Granted, just an internet forum sampling, but still...
We can moan all we like, but it seems Samsung is just not that concerned about the mobile device side of their business.
They make so many products, the mobile side is just not super important to them, like say HTC, where mobile is core to their business.
As long as Sammy gets them phones out the door into unsuspecting users hands, they could care less about updates is my feeling. They do get the hardware down tho...Samoled anyone?

Meanwhile almost all phones have froyo and their original galaxy S is getting gingerbread about the same time all the other phones are getting them.
