Wow, you guys have been busy today...

It looks like you have some good ideas coming together, and I'm all for whatever you guys decide. Let me know how I can help!

woohhh. what happened. i was looking all over the place for this. lol. aswome name btw. whos comittee chair. ooo, can i be commitee smart arse. :D.

seriously.

what threads and stuff were you guys thinking of putting in the super thread? i would also like to hear dans objections. i think ragnarox was on the right path, combine jaekar's threads as they all relate. i think one big mack thread would be good. and will sheepy be stealing my pie again?

So far the direction it seems to be heading would be we would end up with the following 5 stickies:

1. Superclean - as is
2. DXC's rooting, eb01, returning to stock - as is
3. DXC's ODIN and clockwork combined into one
4. Jaekar99's Themes and boot animations threads combined into one
4. Super thread which would include the instructional parts of the following:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...nate-beginners-rooting-read-me-3-17-11-a.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...8399-how-discussion-improve-battery-life.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ks/55753-how-voodoo-updated-9-mar-2011-a.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...4-guide-tools-information-mac-os-x-users.html - possibly with a link to his other two mac theads:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...o-bootcamp-windows-required-update-3-1-a.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...o-bootcamp-windows-required-update-3-1-a.html

here are my suggestions
whatever we put in sticky form we need it to be high visiabilty it needs to force people to look and the best way to do that is to have only 1 sticky, because then what option will they have but to look

so we make 1 sticky with links to all our threads. this will leave our threads intact. Leaving threads intact are important because then we can update them at will and we will not have to deal with multiple discussion threads.

for an example of what i am suggesting look here
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...eturn-stock-remove-system-apps-other-how.html

at the bottom of the frist post is a list of links . the sticky should be similar to this.

oh and the only other sticky should be superclean thread

thoughts?

if i cant be commitee smart arse, can i atleast get the title chris promised me, "The Brick Master".

c'mon kev, give us some input.

how about we make one giant sticky with all our stuff (not dans or adrys threads, they need thier own). we each reserve the number of posts we need for each topic. the first post will be a a table of contents. then we have seperate non sticky q and a and discusion threads for each topic which will be linked in the sticky. that way the stickie stays clean.

That's a good idea. We could keep a separate thread for each how-to, keep that thread open so the OP can edit it at will, and allow for discussion on only that topic. I've actually done this in other forums to a lesser extent.

I'm about to head back to work, but when I get home I will get a little more involved in the brainstorming

Right on. This is the kind of input we need to make this as good as it can be. I was originally thinking one post per topic, but that would be too much work to cut up the threads all of you have already spent a ton of time and work putting together. So if I'm understanding Gunner here are the two concepts for the super thread:

1. Each of you determines how many posts you would need for each of your topics, and then simply merge those already existing posts from your threads into the super thread. Leave your current threads as they are except changing the title to what Gunner did with the battery thread and make them all discussion threads. Have links to all the threads in the first post with the table of contents for the super thread.

or

2. Simply create a one post sticky with links to everyone's threads and leave them in tact.

I agree we need to make sure the title of the super thread will need to be such that everyone coming to the Rooting, ROMs, and Hacks forum knows that this is where you start.

EDIT- Sorry, I forgot to link DXC's post too. I was supporting DXC's idea and Gunner's thoughts. Trying to do too much at one time

How does everyone else feel about DroidXcon's idea?

its ok. i still think he and adry need there own stickys. they do entirely to much to stick in one super thread.

sharky had the gist of my idea. i was thinking of closing each existing thread all together. have the super thread with everything in it and the discussion thread will be a new thread all together, kinda start fresh. the how to post will have a link to the disc thread.

In light of the new suggestion, I'm going to ask DroidXcon to create a master thread with links to every how-to in the forum. We'll leave each how-to in its own separate thread, and allow discussion in those threads. Ideally we would have a large sticky section with all relevant topics, but due to the 5 sticky limit this seems to be the best route.

I think if we can compile each of our individual threads with the ability to control content and edit/update as we need is fine with me.. I think that DXC has a great idea with a "Clearing House" sticky of links where the person seeking the information can link out from there.

As I think about it if we had 6 different topics and a couple of persons posting on each that is a dozen conversations going on at one time... May be hard if not impossible to follow.. and then to get useful responses to the person who needs it may also complicate outcomes..

thats why the disc thread would be seperate. there wouldnt be any discussion in the stickie, just the disc thread.

so you read the how to, if you have questions, you click the link to the disc thread. tabed browsing is great.

Ok ill work on this behind the scenes

disc threads are great in theory if people abide by them or even pay attention to the link to it but normally this is not the case , for example the rooting discussion thread is there but yet we get random root question threads.

also it leaves us with locked threads that can only be modified or updated by finding a moderator to unlock it for you

OK, now that I've taken a moment to stop, not try to do 5 things at once, and collect my thoughts, my understanding of the direction we are starting to take now and seems to be the most agreeable would be to condense the 5 stickies and other important threads into 3 this way:

1. Leave superclean alone
2. Create a sticky solely for DXC that would contain links to his current three stickies or whatever he felt was best for what he has created so far.
3. Super thread where we could simply paste over the current informational posts from each of your threads, leave the current threads in tact so everyone can make changes and edit their OP, supply links to everyone's threads in the super thread.

Are we getting closer? I think something along these lines like DXC was suggesting creates the least amount of work for everyone, allows you to keep your current thread in tact and update it as needed, and still provides a great resource for people to use to read up on everything in one super thread, and then follow the links to ask questions and get help. I would also like to add a link to Cory's thread: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...faq-plus-stock-unrooted-rooted-downloads.html because it has the version of EB01 without root for those people who want Froyo, but still do not want to root.

DXc brought up a good point to me - having too many unrelated topics condensed into one thread puts off readers, causes them to use search and find old/outdated threads, follow outdated info and then have a mess on their hands. Having separate threads for each topic will ensure people can find what they're looking for when searching, and will hopefully minimize user support that would otherwise be unnecessary.

With DXc maintaining a "master link thread" with links to every available how-to and help thread, we wouldn't need to condense everything as we were going to before. This would eliminate the need to have the how-to in the sticky section, and a discussion of it somewhere else.

Well if everyone is good with this thought of creating a "master link thread" without the how-to's (which makes sense because if people read the how to in the super thread, they are not going to take the time to read each of your updated OP's and they may clog up the thread with questions that could have otherwise been answered from reading your OP), we can get started on this concept. I now DXC is super busy and a lot of you have noticed I am the link master and can crank out a link faster than Charlie Sheen can tank his career. So if no one has any objections I will start on the master link thread for DXC and then ship it over to him.

EDIT - I just know this whole thing kind of snowballed from my goofy suggestion, so I don't want that to create extra work for any of you.

DroidXcon is already working on the link thread - you can PM him to collaborate though. Two heads are better than one, right?
