Fastboot command stuck on waiting for device

My phone shows up as a device but when I issue a command it just says waiting for device. Does anyone know whats wrong?

my bf phone did the same thing. is yours hooked up to the computer via usb? we had to try a different usb port, then it worked. Idk if this will help you, but if you have more then 1 usb port, give it a shot
