Fess up, who went to check out the S4

I own both the G4 and HTC, the HTC is better for me. It will be my daily driver. G4 screen is very hard to read in bright light ie outside. If you like to take pictures, you will have a hard time seeing the G4 screen to line up your shot.

Good to know... wasn't considering that. I haven't been able to see the S4 screen outside at all.

Yep, I went and checked out the S4 yesterday and will probably do so again today. I really like the One and it's the best phone I've had to date. My two main reasons for having any doubts...

1. Camera. I'm a camera junkie and the S4 has a great camera. The One is the best camera phone I've had yet, but I still can't past the S4. What I'm trying to decide is how important that is to me and the types of conditions I'll see the benefit in. The One is no slouch, but you can definitely see the difference in pixel count. The S4 does take good low light pictures... maybe not as good as the One, but with the in store conditions (pointing to a dark area) it was right up there with the One. In medium to brighter light, the detail is definitely better than the One and the S4 has better metering and exposure. I know the One is scheduled for a camera app update, but I can't judge that right now.

2. The LED notifications. I'm pretty disappointed with the LED notifications on the One. Might not seem like a big deal for some, but not having any notification status for apps while charging is a huge oversight. I keep my phone on a dock charging at work and being able to glance over to see notifications is important. I have to keep it on silent, so I can't use sound notifications. I don't mind the simple colors (just two), but the lack of control or features is really nagging.

What's really preventing me from getting the S4..

I like the feel and build of the One much more. I love the front facing speakers. While the S4 display is bigger and I prefer it's size, I think the color representation on the One is much better. On anything but the brightest setting the appeal of the S4 quickly drops off. I really dislike TouchWiz. It's a mess, regardless of capability. I would install Nova right away, but I still don't think it would get rid of enough of it for me. Too many gimmicks and "features" on the S4 I'll never use -- I'd wind up disabling 3/4 of them. I also dislike the stock email and calendar apps, yes, I know I can get others, but the OEM/stock versions on the One are really good, in fact better than any 3rd party I've tried. Also, I want 32GB internal storage which is unavailable during my return window -- I don't care what I can get on SD expansion.

Boils down to the camera and notifications really and if those are enough to overcome what I dislike about the rest of the S4. I don't think they will. Gut feeling, I'm sticking with the One, but still a little torn.

The one's resolution is more than adequate. see these pics. http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...res-show-us-what-you-got-d-9.html#post2737422. Per the poster these were taken on auto settings. I think they would be even better with sharpness -1. I just don't see situations where more pixels is really going to over-ride the improved low light, the f2 lens, OIS and larger pixels. They do need to work a bit on the dynamic range and maybe rework the interface, but I feel like 13mp is over kill which leads to poor low light performance (it is worse, despite your in store snaps) and large file sizes.

The one takes good pictures in good light and takes good pictures in darker situations than the S4 can. The only benefit of the S4 is additional resolution that is not really needed except in unusual circumstances.

My friend got her Galaxy S4 and I have to say having owned a GS3 before I got the One I really felt at home with the S4. Unlike what reviews said the screen to me at least was very beautiful. Actually I felt like the colors on the S4 looked more colorful. The camera is very good and at least compared to the S3 doesn't feel as plastic. Not to mention it feels better to hold on one hand to me although not as premium as the One. I really want to go to the store and get some more hands on. The only turn off I have is Touch Wiz still looks terrible. I can't stand it. The gimmicks didn't bother me because I can always turn them off but there are a few that do come in handy. Hmm I got 2 more days to return this. I am torn

I have the GS4, but several days before I got it I checked out the One in the AT&T store. I did like the messaging and email setup a lot. The fonts were very nice from what I can remember. And yes, after having the GS4, I can remember that the One was alot snappier. No delays or stutters like the GS4. I'm debating returning the GS4 for the HTC One. Decisions, decisions.

All the posts I've read about balky capacitive keys have scared me off. Too bad because I actually prefer capacitive keys to save screen space. I also read one post about low volume since update that concerned me. 500 meg used up by o.s. seems excessive too.
